She's begging for it
She’s just going to keep comparing things to rape until she knows the difference. The old Drama would’ve done something about that. This one buys roses.

Uncommon Sportsman :: Absurdity in play
I don't get what was so wrong with comparing it to being raped
I can understand somebody listening to that and saying, “that’s a little overboard”, but that’s what exaggerations are. No public apology necessary. But, it does make her like more entertaining and helps the media turn her into the next Britney Spears/Lindsay Lohan incarnation. And we all know well that went before.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
She is a public figure.
Having managed public figures you have to watch your ass all the time. I am sure she got hate mail and phone calls from women who are rape survivors who were offended that she could compare such a violent and dehumanizing physical act to the invasion of privacy that is celebrity.
"This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade." -jbox
Like I said, it could be interpreted as an exaggeration meant to create visceral reaction to how violated she feels by the situation. That does not require anyone to send hate mail or phone calls. It’s an artistic license to free speech. People that don’t get that should be the ones apologizing.
Now, she did apologize, but apologizing because people send you hate mail and phone calls to me is worse than not apologizing at all. However, maybe she means it. Maybe she’s just vapid enough not to understand the statement she made in those remarks. I could buy that as well and in which case my opinions on the matter would seem a little off base.
It still doesn’t mean ABCNews.com should be covering it (eyes roll).
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
And you sir, have obviously never worked as an on-the-record
Media consultant, communications director, or press secretary. Everything you said here is correct and valid, but wonderland. Unfortunately public figures have to realize and deal with the media as it is, not as it should be.
She could very well mean what she said with every ounce of her body, but if it has any perceived effect on her future box office viability, she is going to apologize. I, on a personal level, don’t give a shit what celebrities say or think but other people do. She wants to make sure as wide an audience as possible want to see her movies… millions are at stake.
"This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade." -jbox
There's a certain amount of integrity
To not capitulating to the people that send vitriol at you (and probably don’t even seen your movies). However, it’s not the safe approach and most people that advise people to speak on-the-record want to react like cowards because its safer. Obviously her advisors don’t want her to appear headstrong and independent. But, I definitely don’t want to debate the merits of how best forward her career.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
This is true
Most advisors are cowards. I have often advised clients to have balls, but only in the most passive sense because it is not my reputation on the line, it is theirs, and ultimately when I 20 year old new celebrity is the client… its probably better to error on the side of conservative or prudent. Shiit when I was 20 I had no idea who the hell I was or what I wanted to do, I sure this poor girl has no idea either.
"This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade." -jbox
That "I" between when & 20 should be an "a".
"This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade." -jbox
The last thing I'm going to say is
That even a public figure should be themselves. Is anyone really going to be that happy if they do a ton of things to keep up appearances instead of expressing themselves?
Maybe that’s the “wonderland” that MrDanielX spoke of earlier, but it seems to me that life’s pursuits would be more fruitful on that path than the one where you apologize for things you are not sorry for (disclaimer: I realize some people will apologize things that they actually are sorry for and that’s fine).
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
I totally agree.
This is why celebrities are crazy for the most part… and why I would never want to be one.
"This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade." -jbox
Same rules apply for athletes.
That’s why it seems that there’s an apology from some athlete for something stupid every week.

One of the reasons
I didn’t just table this debate for another forum was that the things I was saying did seem to apply to athletes as well. Can someone go back and edit out the Kristin Stewart stuff and stick in some athlete’s name. Thanks.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
Naw, it was interesting. I'm just kidding.
I think the real issue is how we’re conditioned to react with histrionics over every perceived misstatement from public figures.
"Never have a motto, that's what I always say" - Me
I don't really care, either
I’m not interested in the opinions of actors professional pretenders whose most valuable asset is the way they look, ignorant or not.

Especially when she’s trying to do her pretending. Its both aesthetically pleasing and humorously amusing.

Seriously
Is there a more annoying celebrity out there than K-Stew? Don’t get me wrong, she has acting chops (see Adventureland, Panic Room, Into The Wild, The Runaways), but the BS about how much her life sucks now that she’s famous line? Please. Millions of teenage girls would die to take your place to play your whiny, pale-faced brat you’re getting paid millions of dollars for, so just shut up and look emo for the camera.
by Jonathan Holmes on Jun 4, 2010 1:51 PM PDT up reply actions
Being a celebrity sucks
I have managed several politicians… and you are basically writing off normalcy… which is underrated in todays culture. The grass is always greener but its hard to judge a 20 y/o who is realizing how much it sucks.
"This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade." -jbox
If it sucked so much, she'd find something else to do.
How many accountants are there who realize they hate it and change careers? Plenty. How many lawyers, policemen, salespeople, and secretaries bitch about their jobs and just go out and find another career? Millions.
Yet, you NEVER hear of a famous actor changing his/her profession. I can’t name one. Because it’s an insanely awesome job. I’m sure there are drawbacks to being famous… but I don’t feel one ounce of sympathy for someone like Kristen Stewart. You don’t like it? QUIT. You’re 20 years old, you have all the money and time in the world to find a profession you love.
She must be out of her effing mind if she thinks the average Joe or Jill is going feel bad because too many people want to take pictures of her.

There are certainly ways she could go about changing her life
But then, when I was 20 I was useless and could not make decisions, and I am sure everyone around her who is getting a cut of her cash in some way… agents, family, friends, etc, are telling her to STFU and “look emo for the camera”. When this kind of money is involved it is hard to break away. I would hope, that if she is really unhappy, that someone who actually cares about her would tell her to take a break, go to college or do something else for awhile. Problem is that cultural priorities are misplaces hugely these days.
"This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade." -jbox
Yeah, completely agree.
It’s sad that if anyone makes a decision based on principles (Pat Tillman) or happiness rather than money, they’re looked at as some kind of freak.
I’m pretty sure that I would HATE being a famous person. Wealth I could deal with… but probably not fame.

Checking in on some of our minor leaguers.
Jaff Decker is struggling mightily in Lake Elsinore. I’m really hoping he’s just getting his feet under him after coming back from injury.
Logan Forsythe, also returning recently from injury, is doing pretty well. Not a lot of power yet, but he’s walking like crazy, so hopefully the hitting will come.
Cory Luebke just made his first start of the season after appearing twice in relief. In 12.1 innings pitched, his line is 4 H, 2 ER, 8 K, 4 BB, 0 HR.

My theory on Decker
Not having a spring to get ready hurts him. He is very reliant on his batting eye to draw walks and hit with power. He may be out of sync right now because he didn’t get a chance to get his timing right before game action.
