Padres sweep Marlins with 4-2 win
Hooray! Padres win again and complete their 4th sweep of the season and their 15th series win.
If I counted correctly, this season the Padres series record is 15-7-3.
Hopefully you were able to see the Friarhood Team Latos T-Shirt Commercial Padres game today. Mat Latos had a little trouble with location and umpiring but had a quality start despite his past troubles in Florida. Latos left the game with men on base and the lead but the Marlins were able to tie the game at two after his departure.
With the score still tied in the 8th Will Venable CRUSHED a two run homer into the right field seats to put the Padres into the lead for good. More amazing than the distance of the home run was the accuracy. He was able to miss all the empty seats and actually hit the ball to a fan who promptly threw it back on the field.
Anybody else notice that Venable was wearing a bright green Silly Bandz on his right hand? Is this the secret to his recent power? Most definitely. I'm guessing he is harnessing the power of the most deadly predator in the ocean by wearing the shark bracelet.
Go Padres!

The 6-games coming up with Colorado are huge.
It’s essential that we at least go 3-3 against them to maintain our standing. Going 2-4 would help them back into the race, while going 4-2 could help bury them.

It probably would be partially attributed to luck, like yesterday against Johnson.
But it would still be awesome.

Man, what are the odds that we'd beat two starters of that quality
in a 3-day span?

Pretty low
we don’t have a great track record of beating elite pitchers, and with Correia on the mound tomorrow it’s even less.
But man, it would be sweet.
I don't think it's luck
You guys have been tremendous all season long and I for one am scared to death of what the standings may look like in a few weeks.
Get well soon Tulo. The Rockies need you.

yeah but...
Padres have the Stros, Nats and Snakes mixed in with those games.
This will be a good opportunity to open up a fat(er) lead in the West.

15 games over .500 Who da thunk it?
This with Blanks tanking, Anthony struggling at the plate all year, Venables inconsistency, and Headley channeling Burroughs. This is a team with huge problems on the offensive side of the ball and it hasn’t seemed to matter.
Venables bomb should remind us of what our team could be with a 30 homer hitter behind Adrian. More power can cover up the occasional mistake in the outfield and eventual slipup in the pen.

I am very interested to hear the next interview with Hoyer
We are going to start July in 1st place. That’s essentially half the season.
AND, our first SEVEN July games are against the Nationals/Astros…. If we go 3-3 or better against the Rockies (as Zach mentions above), we could be up by a lot of games over everyone by the time we reach the all-star game.
I want to hear what Hoyer is looking to do for the second half of the season.
I lot of our strength comes from having to play every day (5 man rotation with bullpen). I don’t know how we would match up against other strong teams in a playoff series where you may only need 3 starters.
Anyways, Let’s Go Padres! Hooray for us!
I would just like to say,
We are at .600. Just sayin’. Too bad it doesn’t mean anything because we’re in June and everyone knows these games don’t count until September.

Very nice job
"Get your hopes up. That's what hopes are for by the way, to get up. You don't get your hopes down, you get your hopes up." -Jeffrey Tambor
Josh Banks started a game for the Astros the other night
seems unreal now that he starting games in 08 and 09 for the Padres and now wouldn’t be high on depth chart to carry ball bags. Things have turned in a hurry. Only 1.6 years of hell. it seemed that the Padres were becoming the Royals or Pirates…..
