They played each other in knockout round in 2002. USA won 2-0. Then we got robbed in the quarterfinals against Germany.
They also play each other in World Cup qualifying. And they faced off in the 2009 Gold Cup Championship Game.

I find myself rooting for Mexico.
I figure it means more to them. I can at least root in futility for the Padres and Chargers and the US wins in the Olympics at other sports.
