The Padres scored early on a Ricky Romero throwing error, but did not manage any other runs as Kevin Correia gave up two home runs in a 7-1 series finale loss.

  • Frustrated Torrealba suspended by MLB | padres.com: News
Padres catcher Yorvit Torrealba was upset Wednesday after he received a three-game suspension following his ejection from Monday's game, when he made contact with home-plate umpire Larry Vanover.

Heath Bell has yet to have a save opportunity five games into the Padres' nine-game Interleague homestand, but stays active during the game and continues to throw on the side.

Shortstop Everth Cabrera will begin his rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Portland, seeking to return from the disabled list with a strained right hamstring for the second time this season.

  • The Official Blog of Matt Antonelli: MY FINGERS HURT
You never really know what your going to get when you sit down to do a signing, except for maybe carpal tunnel.

  • Padres Trail: Three and Five
"Here's a radical thought. If Kevin Correia continues to struggle, perhaps Tim Stauffer should get a crack at starting once he returns to the big club. Stauffer should be headed out on a rehab stint sometime late this week. Correia's four good innings per appearance would make for a very effective long man out of the bullpen. "

  • THE KEPT FAITH: Cunningham? CunningSLAM!
"I want Cunningham to stick. He's only 24. Compare that to the previously mentioned outfielder's ages of 30, 27, 27 and 29. Yeah, we're not exactly running out guys who have much room to improve. "

    Something's up with Correia

His command just isn’t there and so far this year, he’s broken down in the 6th inning. I would say that he needs to go to the bullpen, but there really isn’t anyone (maybe Tim Stauffer if he wasn’t on the DL) who could fill in the rotation, and with CY, I think, lost for the year, again, the Padres should seriously consider getting another solid arm in the rotation.

    After reading those articles

I tend to agree. He seems like he could be very valuable in the ’pen considering how bad he is in the 5th & 6th innings… and how good he is 1-4. They are conditioning Stauffy in the minors to get him back in “starter form”. But we need another guy who can give us, at the very least, a tandem starter with Correia. Its almost a given that a team will score a crooked number on him in the 5th and 6th innings.

I would seriously consider making a deal with the Mariners

In terms of pitching: Cliff Lee or Jason Vargas . Good ERA’s and both can take you deep into games.

    Exactly.
