Teams we hate 2010
Dex, Jon, Kev and I put all 30 Major League Baseball teams in order from least hated to most hated. Then we averaged our rankings and came up with a definitive list of Gaslamp Ball's most hated teams.
It is kind of interesting how we all pretty much felt the same about the Angels as noted by the Standard Deviation of 1.15. We disagreed the most on the Mariners with an SD of 10.71. Here take a look.
[Note by jbox, 06/17/10 10:40 AM PDT ] We decided to just put up the entire list and we added in Kev's rankings.

Dex on why he didn't pick the Padres for his least hated:
Since this is teams I hate as opposed to teams I love, I believe that to truly love something, you must be able to identify something that you hate about it and move past it. This is why the Padres are at 29 for me.

Jon and Jbox's ranking seem to be skewed by our current opponent.
Or Dex is a Blue Jay lover.

and I hate that they’re getting good. I don’t want to see another first time world series champions unless it’s the Padres.

I can't think of anything about the blue jays
The only think I know about them is that they had Dave Winfield on the team and he liked it there. And I like Dave Winfield.
If the Mariners don't end up #1 most hated, I quit
But then again, for me, there’s a 29-way tie at first for the most hated team.

Dodgers?

Mariners are our natural rivals. It’s freaking nature. You can’t fight it.

uhhhhhhhh..... DEX HATES THE PADRES SECOND LEAST????
BURN HIM!!!!! BUUUUURRRRRNNNNN!!!!! HIIIIIIMMMMM!!!!!
my top and bottom five
Hated:
1. STL: kill us in the playoffs, Pujols breaks our players and hearts.
2. BOS: Red Sox Nation; is there anything more annoying, other than Pujols’ sneer?
3. NYA: too much money, too much attitude
4. LAN: some likeable players and have Vin announcing, but still
5. PHL: they always seem to play us tough, and I don’t like Utley and Howard
Liked (excluding SD, of course)
1. OAK: gave us DePo and another smart, small money team
2. CLE: smart FO, small market team and their fans have suffered like ours
3. LAA: born in SD, but grew up in Newport, so have to like them some
4. NYN: a good friend pulls for SD but is a Mets fan, so I reciprocate
5. SEA: not a popular team on the site, but Seattle fans suffer like SD (Mariners and Seahawks have no championships, just like our Bolts and Pads)
keep in mind...
We were just ranking in terms of which teams we hate. So the bottom five aren’t necessarily teams I “like”. Just teams that I have only a little bit of hate for. If I really think about it… I could probably justify the Padres being my 20th or so most hated team because there’s a whole group of AL teams that I forget even exist.
If it were teams that I like, the Padres would be #1, but the Royals wouldn’t be in the top 5.
i cannot find hate for the other 29...
a few, vehemently, but then it peters out; you can ignore my list
Props to Dex
Wow, the Royals as Dex’s least-hated team.
We Royals fans need you, Dex. Hell, I need you. I’m a mess without you. I miss you so damn much. I miss being with you, I miss being near you. I miss your laugh. I miss your scent; I miss your musk. When this all gets sorted out, I think you and me should get an apartment together.

Hated:
1. Red Sox. (If I ever come face to face with the guy who admits to be “bard51” I will hit him in the mouth then and there. YOU WANT GONZOLEZ? COME AND GET HIM.)
2. Dodgers. Because they provide an avenue for assholes like Jayson Werth and Manny Ramirez to make money, and an avenue for assholes like Dodger Nation to spend money.
3. Phillies. (see reasoning for why I hate the Dodgers)
Not Hated:
1. Twins. They’re so harmless. I mean, this is the team that made Kirby Puckett, Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer into stars. It’s like the most family-friendly team in MLB.
2. Nationals. Strassy’s team and basically Padres East in terms of moribunditude. If not us, there’s no other underdog I would prefer to root for.
3. Indians. I like Major League. Also, the fanbase is friendly and oh-so-knowledgeable.
The Padres are good, but make no mistake: we've gotta beef up the linwup.
If I had a nickel from every SBN blog that has banned me, Arrowhead Pride would owe me 5¢.

Top five I hate
1. Yankees – They might be baseball’s elite, but they’re still bastards.
2. Dodgers – It goes without saying.
3. Rockies – That team made every Padres fan’s s**t list after Game 163, in paticular, Roy “I don’t need to touch home plate” Holliday.
4. Cardinals – Becasue they’ve kicked our asses everytime we’ve ran into them in the playoffs. Pujhos is always a killer against us.
5. Cubs – Talk about annoying fans!!

My five least hated teams
San Diego
Oakland
Boston
Florida
Philadelphia
Bolts from the Blue // "He looks like a catfish" - Nick Hardwick on Brandon Siler
Bloody Elbow // " looks like your comment violated rule #4. and it’s a heck of a rule, rule #4" - Kid Nate
Most hated
Dodgers (only team I actually curse on a regular basis)
strongly dislike for rational reasons:
Barry Bonds (Giants)
Alex Rodriguez (Yankees)
1998 (Yankees)
most years in which we make the playoffs (Cardinals)
#163…. which has never finished (Rockies)
Annoying fans (Red Sox)
so Bad (ownership) every freaking year… (Pirates)
For me, the bottom 15 would all be american league
(except for Yankees, Red Sox, and Angels). I really don’t care what happens in that league at all. Its not real baseball. Though, I do harbor some hate against the three teams I mentioned due to my hatred of media bias and of LA.
My top and bottom on the "Hated Scale" are as follows
Bottom:
30: Padres (yes Dex, you must find something you hate in what you love. Least does not imply absence of hate. I have caught you in a logical fallacy and think you are a secret Royals lover)
29: Nationals: (I lived in DC for 3 years and watched several games. They grew on me… plus Strassy)
28: O’s (Again living near DC, I visited Camden Yards many times, hard to hate such a shitty team with such a great stadium
27: Angels (They stepped up in 2002 and prevented the Evil Bonds Giants, from winning the World Series… plus they had scrap)
26: Indians (Major League)
5: Diamondbacks (They pwn us in Phoenix, uniforms are ugly, division opponent)
4: Dodgers (Fans are total a-holes)
3: Rockies (163…)
1t: Giants (They are so smug, I hate that they still have brown unis and we don’t)
1t: Yankees (SCOTT MFing BROSIUS!!!!!!!! RAGE!!!!)

Speaking of hate
Diamondbacks and Rockies for being lame, in our division, and out-of-state. Dodgers for being lame, in our division, and from LA. Yankees for paying out their @s$es for titles the last hundred years.

My top hated list goes a little something like this
Dodgers
Yankees
Cubs
Dodgers
Cardinals

It took my a while to think of my least hated (most loved?), but here they are:
Padres
Mariners
Twins
Giants
Rockies
"You're like the nicest internet person I know." - theodore donald kerabatsos
I know I'm in the minority here...
But just like MDX talks about living in DC, I grew up in Los Angeles, and my dad was a Dodger fan. So guess who was a Dodger fan as a kid? Man, the late 70s early 80s was my time with that team, and I definitely have nostalgia for it. (DODGER LOVER!)
Now of course all those players are just fond memories (unless they’re managing now!) and I am utterly ambivalent to the Dodgers, as I am with all other teams. I can’t work up hate for a team I used to love. Obviously I “hate” any team we are in the process of playing at game time, but beyond that? Eh, don’t care.
So my list…
30. Padres
29. Dodgers (based on nostalgia)
28. Tie for everyone else
I think this is a good illustration of how you all are SO MUCH more schooled in baseball than I am. I need to study up and stuff!
Its true. My #1 hated team at any moment is.
Whoever the Padres are playing. Period.

If it were not for the horribly displays the bastard Dodger Fans make
At Petco. I would hate them far less as well. As far as our Division rivals are concerned, I hate them least… I still chant BEAT LA with unusual relish.
"This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade." -jbox
I love you for being a Dodger lover
I kinda love the Rockies and the Giants when the Pads aren’t playing them, and depending where everyone is standing wise in the division myself.
First MLB game I ever went to was a Rockies/Giants game in Colorado with my Dad. Super nostalgia. But my Aunt makes me want to hate the Rockies just because she is soooooo stuck up about them. It’s annoying.

The Seattle Mariners were designated as the Padres’ interleague rivals when interleague play began in the 1990s. The rivalry was non-existent before this title was given. It is any loyal Gaslampballer’s duty to promote this rivalry and pretend that it is important, even though it really means nothing to anybody.

Giants and Braves
not ranked high enough. Other than that, a decent list, although seems like most of our hate should be reserved for our division rivals. My Most Hated Top 10 would look like this:
1. Dodgers (no team nor fans I despise more)
2. Diamondbacks
3. Giants
4. Rockies
5. Braves
6. Red Sox (strictly speaking, I don’t care about the AL, but pretty much hate the Red Sox and their fans.)
7. Astros
8. Phillies
9. Mets
10. Mariners (of course!)
Bottom 5 would probably be:
26. Royals
27. Twins
28. Orioles
29. Angels (my de facto AL team.)
30. Padres
I also can't hate the Reds...
….at least not today, since they are (so far) doing their part to help the Padres slip back into first place (creaming Dodgers 7-1 in the 6th).
Plus
they make it so easy for us to hit home runs when we play them in Cincy.

Strictly on fans
How can one not hate the fact that the Dodgers regularly come into our house, disrespsct us to our faces and then have the balls to say that because of history they will always be a better franchise. Their fans are violents, rude and completely uninformed. Giants are becoming a close second only because they still like Bonds. In the AL, the Red Sox are worse than the Yankees only because they sucked for decades and now that they are using the Yankee philosophy are actually winning. Fans might have passion but they have no business disrespecting a team they see once every 4 years. Yankees should and are universally hated, always.

"This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade." -jbox
Really?
That’s just odd to me. I understand that Red Sox fans are hated… but as pad_619 said above, how can you hate a team/group of fans that you see once every four years as opposed to one that comes into your stadium multiple times every year and does everything it possibly can to disrespect you and your team?
Dodgers fans come down here and take over our stadium, start “let’s go Dodgers” chants, start fights, act drunk and obnoxious, and basically treat us like their unwanted stepchild.
Red Sox fans are annoyed, act entitled (after 86 years of losing) and have an enormous bandwagon. But in terms of their relation to the Padres and Padres fans… there’s almost none.
I just can’t believe that people would hate the Red Sox more than the Dodgers. Seems misguided.

I think it's because we're in such close proximity
that you don’t get as worked up, you’re used to having Dodgers fans knife and throw beers at you.
So we've been vaccinated against Dodger assholery...
Whereas Red Sox fans are like some new strain of small pox and we’re wrapping ourselves in their blankets.

I also hate the Sox because they seem to have horded most of their douchy fans

While I agree with the general consensus that the Dodgers should be #1
It is clear to me that the vast majority have never visited the unfriendly confines of Wrigley field while wearing Padres gear. The Cubs share the following reasons to be hated with the Red Sox
1. Annoying accent
2. long-suffering blah blah blah
3. Spend an insane amount of money
4. Poser celebrity “fans” wearing their logo
5. Jackass fans
6. They believe in curses
The Cubs are worse than any team other than the Dodgers for the following reasons:
1. Their fans blame everybody and everything except the crappiness of their team for their endless WS futility.
2. They apparently hate Tony Gwynn
3. What they did to Uncle Milty
4. Derek Lee is a big wussy baby

Of course I might just be biased because I live in “Cubs country”.
Ohhh! How come nothing is ever boobs or ice cream? - Homer Simpson
Agree with this.
I actually want the Cubs to win a WS just so that “lovable loser” veneer will be stripped away and everyone will realize that they’re just as insufferable as Red Sox and Yankees fans.

I've been to wrigley wearing Padres gear
but the Cubs weren’t playing the Padres. They were playing the Nationals so I wasn’t really cheering for anybody. Got along quite well with the people in my section. Some dude even bought me a beer because I had never had an “Old Style” before.
But I will say that the cubs fans that come to San Diego are dicks though and the cubs are in my top 10 of most hated.

Wait WHAT?
They hate THE GWYNN?!?!?!
"This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade." -jbox
most hated
1. Yankess (I’m sorry, but as a baseball fan you have to hate them the most. They buy their team every year, steal other teams’ players, they tore down Yankee Stadium… this is a no brainer)
2. Dodgers (pure evil)
3. Rockies (most annoying team in MLB & they seriously give me the creeps)
4. D-bags (Arizona- nuff said)
5. Giants (fuck the Giants)
-After these 5 I don’t show too much hatred to any other team, but I do have immense hatred & apathy towards the AL. The DH is a god damn shame to the game.

Particularly F-CK the Giants!
"This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade." -jbox
you can't have immense hatred and apathy at the same time
Think of it in terms of an ex. Intensely hating an ex and having apathy towards the ex are completely different feelings.
Couldn't you
Have hatred towards your ex, but have apathy towards what is going on with your ex?
That’s kind of my interpretation of what he was saying about the AL.
But, then against I’ve always hated apathy and been apathetic towards hatred.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.

Alive and well, thank you
I’m surprised there are no WTF? comments on two of my choices… Tigers at 25 and Cubs at 20
My better half is from Detroit. Despite what people think, Detroit is a great sports town, and I have no ill will toward them for winning the series in ’84… Padres were over-matched.
As for the Cubs selection, I’m a closet fan. What can I say, I love the Midwest and especially Chicago. It’s a great sports town, and if given the choice to move to New York, Boston or Chicago, it’s the Windy City hands down. I experienced the ’84 playoffs v the Cubs, and I feel sorry for them more than I hate them.

I like the Cubs too (when they're not playing us).
I HATE, HATE, HATE the Cardinals and the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Also, my friend Shane is a huge Cubs fan so I end up watching them all the time.
