I was not expecting Cunningslam's voice to sound like that.

I mean, you know when you see someone, and you automatically feel like you know what they sound like? And then you hear then talk, and you think, “Wow, that is not what I was expecting at all.” Kinda like when you pick up a glass and you’re expecting water, but instead it’s something awesome, like chocolate milk. Like that!

Let me put it this way.

You have one of those cups from like, a fast food joint or something. And you know you ordered water, so when you go in for the first sip, you think “Yay! Water!” But when you actually take a drink you realize “Ugh, this isn’t water at all!” and you’re disappointed. But then you think, “OMG, it’s chocolate milk instead! I love chocolate milk!” And then you are happy because it’s awesome. And you got chocolate milk for the price of water, which was hopefully free.

I asked a question the other day

About how many days a player can serve on a rehab assignment before the team has to make a decision. Brock answers that in the Blanks article. A decsion must be made by Sunday. I still think he’ll be brought up by Saturday but we will see soon.

by thepadfather on Jun 16, 2010 8:40 AM PDT via mobile reply actions

I wonder if they're considering having him just fly down here for Saturday's game...

just to be here, but not actually call him up to the team. Like just have him announced before the game so he can come out and tip his cap… and then tell the crowd that he’s currently rehabbing in Portland.

I’m a Purdue Alum, but, due to geographic location and an agreement between the two schools, I had to take some classes at Ball State University. I was always amused by the number of BSU students who wore sweats and T-shirts from other schools. Is that the school you would have gone to if your high school GPA were higher? Are you ashamed of your actual Alma Mater? Did you tell all of your distant family you were going to a better school, and they keep sending you gifts with that school’s logo?

    Certain scenarios make sense

If you grow up in Nebraska then you’re a fan of Cornhusker football or if you’re raised in Alabama you have to choose been the Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers. You may not end up going to those schools, but you can be fans of those teams. I’ve met people here who grow up watching USC football because their dad went there, but never could have gotten in. It’s not an easy thing to quit a team you root for. I guess it’s still no excuse for wearing the colors later on at a different school, but laundry is like hard or something.

    From the AP Wire....
NEW YORK (AP) – San Diego Padres catcher Yorvit Torrealba has
been suspended for three games after making contact with an umpire.
Torrealba was ejected in the ninth inning of Monday’s 6-3 home
loss to the Blue Jays for arguing with umpire Larry Vanover after
taking a called third strike. He was also fined an undisclosed
    amount.
Major League Baseball announced Wednesday that his suspension
would begin that afternoon against Toronto unless he appealed.
Torrealba would also miss games Friday and Saturday at home against
    Baltimore.
He is hitting .277 in 32 games, splitting time with Nick

Wrong question. Has Budbot played him at SS? It seems like a no-brainer that it has to happen soon. Maybe he is waiting for the O’s series?

    Not sure

why Budbot hasn’t rested him more – I think it’s admirable that his defense is what it is and on this team the way they play (the way game seems to be trending w/pitching power/defense) Headley at least contributes to the winning with his glove – maybe the bat comes around later and if it doesn’t then Headley has to becomes a UT Inf. to survive in the big leagues. He becomes Geoff Blum. I actually believe that Headley will get better offensively how much better is the question.

I'm not convinced that he can't hit in the #2 spot.

It’s been 8 games (June 8th) since he was moved from the cleanup spot to #2. I don’t think anyone really sees him as a cleanup hitter. But it’s going to take more than eight games to convince me that this has anything to do with a change in his spot in the order and isn’t just a cold streak.

    Frankly... TGJr's

.221 / .330 / .331… with an even 21/21 BB/K ratio is more impressive because he knows his niche, and he is moving into it. We need Chase to either be a .300 hitter with + 3B Defense… or be our #2 power guy who can hit 25 HR…

by MrDanielX on Jun 16, 2010 1:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Headley won't hit 25 HR's (unless roid distrib. starts up again)

and that’s o.k – his good glove (He can play a lot of positions) , decent wheels, and hopefully a little more pop in bat could mean 10 yr. mlb career. He will hit with more authority later

I feel like he has to do one of the following 3

    1) Avg .300- Start getting more hits
    2) OBP .380- Start taking more walks
    3) Hit 25 HR- Start crushing the ball.

He is doing none of the above. His “wheels” are more of just getting good jumps on pitchers who struggle to hold runners.

I wouldn't get so down on his performance.

He’s in the middle of a dry spell right now… but it was just a few weeks ago that we all were on our knees for the guy (praising His good name, of course).

Yeah, his offense has been pretty bad over the past few weeks… but it hasn’t been like that the whole seson. The only thing that’s been off pretty much all season are his power numbers… but I’ll let texpadre take the lead on that discussion.

by theodore donald kerabatsos on Jun 16, 2010 1:59 PM PDT up reply actions

    That's the frustrating part though

He seems to have forgotten just what made him successful earlier this season. We’ve seen he’s capable of it, but it’s like he’s trying to hard. He’s lost his plate discipline, is chasing crap outside the zone he used to let go by, and not drawing many walks because of it.

by creanium on Jun 16, 2010 2:13 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, I'm just as frustrated as everyone else...

I just think you (the collective you, me included) have to temper our frustration a little and look at the big picture. He’s had a horrible few weeks… but that’s baseball. That happens to everyone. If it lasts for a couple months, then it becomes a serious concern. But overall, I think Headley’s been ok this season.

by theodore donald kerabatsos on Jun 16, 2010 3:41 PM PDT up reply actions

He's going to hit a period this year when he starts hitting some HR's

He will get hot again for one more 15-20 game period….20% of rest of season’s games, Headley will be winniing games with his bat. With this offense so challenged, considering he can play good defense and run a little ) this works for me -

Pads are so thin in the area of backup INF that Lance is pressed into service and doing the best he can -looks like a deer in the headlights sometimes but he has got a couple of big hits – more than Josh Wilson or Greg Burke did last year and it could be worse and be “Dr Strange Glove” Craig Stansberry

    Mainly SS

The 2B was mainly in Fort Wayne and even then he played twice as much SS. The 3B experience is less than 10 games. They are grooming him to be a UT INF instead of just a SS, but it’s an ongoing process as evidenced by how he’s adjusting to 2B.
