Padres beat the Mariners like a billion to one
Padres retain first place and we hope that the Angel lead (currently 4-0) over the Dodgers holds up so that we can have first place by ourselves and control our fates.
In other news, we've been getting mail bag mail and somebody asked who I thought was going to start on Monday. Something about needing a fantasy team figured out. Keep in mind, I got this email Friday morning. Here was my reply that day:
Hi Bill,
Since Latos and Garland both pitched on Thursday, the weekend is going to go Correia, Clayton, LeBlanc... And unless they give somebody a spot start, my best guess is that it will be Garland and they'll take the opportunity to skip a Latos start.
I'm not positive though so I apologize in advance about your fantasy team.

I'll just leave this here too.
Newsflash. Tony Gwynn Junior has a higher AVG and higher OBP than Scott Hairston.

Nuts to wOBA
until Durango’s not in the top 3.

Uncommon Sportsman :: Absurdity in play
Durango hit a double last night
it is pretty amazing that I guy can have 200 PA’s and hit 1 double and with his speed, only a token triple….I don’t think I have ever seen anything like it.
Padres 2010 Ole'
wOBA is a rate stat, not a counting stat.
A guy with one PA who hits a single can have a huge wOBA.

Uncommon Sportsman :: Absurdity in play
you rag on me for using OPS and use old junk stat like BA ?
Hairston can at least go deep and the Pads of course have no power …..it seems like he is REALLY out of sync….but he just got of DL……
I hope Gwynn Jr. can stay hot for another month or so – you were right in imploring critics to lay off of Gwynn – w/o other options it would have been really foolish to cast him aside
Padres 2010 Ole'
Who said BA was a junk stat?
OBP is essentially the most important stat, which Hairston blows at.

This is true.

I think at the begining of the year he was skeptical... as many were
But now that we are winning, and Petco + our defense has him with good #’s and on a team thats on 1st… the man has probably come around to liking the Pads. As any decent person does.
"This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade." -jbox
Exactly
He’s shown great improvement, even on this Padres team. And I would much rather put Garland out there on short rest than Latos. Gotta protect that golden arm of his.
I heart the Angels

My dad who lives outside Seattle called to say
the Padres have sucked the souls out of every Seattlite….Seattlarian….Seaman?
=SD=
So wait, you mean they're just continuing at the same pace they were going last year
They’re totally going to collapse, they can’t sustain this run. They’ll fall back to earth. I mean honestly, how can 124 games be an accurate sample
not sure I follow you
124 games is a significant amount of games was my point. In this stretch they have won 74 of 124. This leads me to believe that they may indeed keep up their good play.

And the Angels win!
All alone atop the NL West! It feels nice up here. It feels RIGHT.
I need new pants.
I have a good feeling that the Dodgers get swept
Rockies and Giants need to lose tomorrow as well. We need to sweep a bad, bad team in the Mariners.
Blue Jays throw some good pitchers in first two games of next series :
Garland vs. Marcum
Latos vs. Cecil (lhp)
Padres 2010 Ole'
We took care of Seattle's ace, and have manhandled their bullpen
I have confidence today we’ll easily dispatch those freakin’ douchey Mariners. I can’t wait for them stop stinking up the joint and leave the city. I sure hope they plan to spray down all of Petco with bleach once the Mariners leave town.
1+1=2
It’s as easy as that.
