Sleepy little fishing village on the northern Pacific coast of Mexico.
Tasty waves and tacos, but not much else.
Did people here actually expect this?
I mean, we’re on pace for 102 wins right now. I don’t recall many predictions that included 100+ wins.
I know I’m surprised at how they are doing.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
I'm sure it's much less of a surprise to us than it is to everyone else.
I didn’t expect us to win 102 wins, and I still don’t. But I didn’t expect us to be horrible… and pretty much every preseason prediction had us as one of the three worst teams in the league.

Nope.
http://www.gaslampball.com/2010/3/31/1399206/make-your-2010-padres-predictions
The majority predicted 81-85 wins.
I predicted 76 wins and fourth place. This month I think will say a lot with two series against SF, and one against St. Louis. Plus Col, LA. Also have Seattle and Washington in there and one game against the Mets. Curious to see what our record is at the end of May. Then I might buy in more.

Forgot Houston in there too this month, but Padres 'should' have no trouble there.

I'm not going to lie
I predicted 133 wins. So far, so good….
but seriously, I think I was in the 80’s.
Of course I didn't expect them to be on pace for 102 wins, this is certainly a pleasant surprise
But I also knew this team wasn’t one of the league’s worst. I believe I voted they would have a winning record this year, and I still stand by that.
I’m just amused that it’s such a surprise to the rest of the nation that “hey, this team doesn’t actually suck!”
see
you are surprised.

Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
I'm surprised.
And particularly surprised about the fact that it doesn’t seem to be luck that they’re winning (like the start of 2009) but actually playing well.

- Both Los Angeles teams are in last place. The Angels, winner of six of the past eight AL West titles, are 12-16. The Dodgers, an NL finalist the last two seasons, are 11-15.
- Neither Chicago team has a winning record, with the White Sox 11-16 and the Cubs 13-14. It’ll be interesting to see which manager blows first — Ozzie Guillen or Lou Piniella.

Great article by Heyman.
It’s refreshing to read a column by a national writer that doesn’t have any outright cynicism or some sort of backhanded compliments when discussing the Padres.

Got to track the game on gamecase off and on last night
I was getting ticked off in the 6th and 7th when gamecast explained “Kyle Blanks out at home on a runners choice” and when Headley hit into that double play with a man on third.
Thankfully, our savious saved. Only thing I’m bummed about is not being able to go to as many live game (my first will be May 15th) and not being able to watch the games on tv (gonna get extra innings mid season on sale). However, I want to know what your guys thoughts are on the low attendance. We’re kicking ass and no ones going to the games which has to suck for the players. I really don’t think it’s a money issue with people but rather doubt. The Chargers consistently choke in the playoffs yet they get great attendance every year. Hopefully we can keep the winning up and slowly attendance will pick up throughout the summer.

There are just a lot of lame people in SD (present company excluded)
If people think there is a chance to go all the way then they’ll show up and act like it’s the biggest party ever. San Diego is much more of a Charger town.

Hoyer is going to be on 1090 soon
and Darren is going to ask him about Chase’s lack of power. I’m very interested to hear what Jedi has to say.

Didn't really say anything
other than that he’s a “line drive hitter” and some stuff about park effects.

You can take 8 of Chase's singles and call them extra base hits
with his 8 stolen bases. This makes up for lack of power, somewhat.
I'm fine with him being a singles hitter
so long as he keeps getting on base and playing good defense, but he shouldn’t be hitting 4th. Move him to the 2 spot and get someone else to hit behind Adrian.

For now
Venable or Scairston would be decent choices. Eventually Blanks should hit there, though.

It works much better
to have a guy who can get on (like Chase) hit in front of Adrian so he can drive him in, as opposed to a guy who can’t (like Eckstein).

For now I'd say Venable or Scott
and when he comes around, Blanks.
