Clayton Richard and the two-seamer :: Friar Forecast
"If we take the 2010 version of the pitch algorithm as the more accurate one, then it appears what happens in 2009 is that a lot of two-seamers were actually classified as four-seamers. So, in reality, Richard’s pitch selection has probably not changed that much – the pitch algorithm has."

Or at least the accurately named Anaheim Angels.

That’s f**ked up and completely wrong.

I am enjoying this season, and I am not going to try to convince anybody to think anything different.

It just pisses me off because he's one of the few that isn't a complete dipshit.

under the radar is good
The Padres get absolutely no press,
yet they are tied for the 2nd best record in all of baseball
Our offense sucks.
Just imagine if the hitters actually start hitting.
"I post like canned meat."
If he really thinks we are a 79 win caliber team
Then he’s falling into the gambler’s fallacy. The past is the past, a 79 win caliber team is a team that will win 48.8% of its games. The Padres have 112 games left. If they win 48.8% of them they’ll finish 84-68.
Unless, that is, he also predicted that the 79 Padres would start the season 30-20. But, I doubt he did that.

or possibly
he thinks these Padres are really a .440 team, which would also result in 79 wins. I don’t think he is right, if that’s the case, but it is another explanation.

Well
Since he’s on record before the season saying 79 wins and not 71, that doesn’t hold a lot of water.

he doesn’t understand math. That is why he became a “journalist”.

yeah I guess I misread it
if he thinks they are going to fall apart to match his preseason projection, that doesn’t make a lot of sense.
What about this "average fan" business?
Just WHO did the U-T hacks interview to get that skeptical conclusion? I betcha they talked to fans when the Doggers were here, and got the crackpot opinions of Dogger fans. Who knows less about baseball than Dogger fans?

I noticed a weird quirk in the standings yesterday.
The Padres are 14-11 vs. the NL West, and 16-9 against everyone else.
The Dodgers are 15-5 vs. the NL West, and 13-17 against everyone else.
I’m not sure if it means anything at all, but I thought it was interesting.

Scheduling coincidence?
The Dodgers started a hot streak right when they had a block of games against division foes?
I was reading somewhere...
(sorry, forget the source) that the Padres have the easiest schedule in baseball. Does this ring true ?
