Padres leave bases loaded in 5-3 loss to Nationals

PrintWell that 9th inning had all the markings of a comeback rally. The only problem was the execution. The Padres are down 5-2, they load the bases with nobody out. Chris Denorfia hits a line drive to center that drives in one run to make it 5-3 Nationals. Still nobody out. Matt Stairs and Will Venable strike out. David Eckstein grounds to third to end the game.
While the Nationals will file the game under protest we'll file it under "What could have been".

I'd say the game they gave away in Houston was worse
or the extra inning one against the Giants, where they had it, then lost it, then gave up three runs only to mount a futile counterattack.
This one was just a routine loss, albeit one with a pretty juicy chance at the end. Once Stairs struck out there was no way Capps was going to let Venable or Eckstein beat him.
So displeased.
