- It Might Be Dangerous... You Go First: At the Quarter Mark... Well, Almost
"The bottom line is that it appears as though we deserve our run differential, and consequently, deserve our place in the standings. That's a reassuring feeling at the almost quarter mark. The challenge now is to keep it going, because there's still a long way to go. " - Gonzalez, Venable help Padres end Dodgers’ streak - SignOnSanDiego.com
"We needed this," said first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. "Just the way they beat us up three days in a row in San Diego (over the weekend), to get the first one here is nice. These games aren’t that important now, but they might end up being that way in September." -
Venable flirts with Padres' first cycle | padres.com: News
In his first night as the leadoff hitter this season, Will Venable fell a home run shy of turning in the first cycle in Padres history. - Padres chat with U-T columnist Bill Center
"This group cannot be held responsible for the sins of John Moores. At the same time, they came in without much money up front. The fans are being asked to help carry the mortgage until the sale is completed. Fair, no. The one thing Moorad has said is that if revenue rises, he will spend that money on payroll. I guess it's good business. But the product is paying a price. " - Blanks rests his elbow and cold bat - SignOnSanDiego.com
"It’s definitely a time to take a step back and watch the game from the other side," said Blanks, batting .157. "I guess it could be a time to get an empty head, just take it for what it is and learn from it."

PADRES NOTES: OF Blanks battles elbow strain
"I would never want a break for this reason," Blanks said. "It's definitely some extra time to sit back and watch the game from outside. I guess it could be beneficial."

Burrell to the Padres?
"I know it would be a bold move, but for the price and what seems to be the plan to give Durango more experience in AAA, Pat Burrell kind of makes some sense for our team right now. Just a thought..."
Sometimes, We Don’t Know How Good We Have It | Chicken Friars | A San Diego Padres Blog
"The case for Stairs being on the roster isn’t very strong–it basically boils down to "the guy accepts pinch-hitting, he’s a nice guy, and it’s better that he gets the PH role rather than a young player whose development would be hindered by the low ABs."
THE KEPT FAITH: Salazar's Is Almost Out Of Business.
"I honestly don't get it. I am trying to wrap my brain around it but it just won't stretch that far. Can anyone, anywhere give me one reason we have Oscar Salazar on our team?"

Overrated cycle
Hitting for the cycle is the most overrated accomplishment in baseball. If you had a homer, triple and double, would you rather hit a single to complete the cycle, or hit a home run or another double?
Although I do see what you're saying
I wouldn’t call a cycle an “overrated accomplishment”, because its an EXCELLENT accomplishment and it means that player had a great game. If a player found himself in that situation, where all he needed was a single to complete the cycle, of course he’s still going to try for something better. But at the very least if he hits a base hit at that point, its a cycle. I don’t see anything overrated about it.

Maybe, like Headley being more comfortable at third,
Venable is more comfortable leading off? He’s gotta hit lefties better to be the fulltime leadoff batter, but so far so good, it sure makes a difference. I hope Bud keeps him in against the lefty today instead of a platoon situation at leadoff.
Stairs has to go
Maybe Burrell would get his pop back in the NL, and maybe not. Maybe whoever the F this Baxter guy is could do something, but starting Stairs in left has got to stop. I could be wrong, but I swear this is the first game that Stairs has started that we have won.
Ohhh! How come nothing is ever boobs or ice cream? - Homer Simpson
He started the second game in Cincy.
Hit a 2-run double. We won that one 5-0.

This is great news.
They should forward this list to Adrian’s agent and work out a quick deal.
