Padres still undefeated against Giants, win 3-1

I missed most the game, but don't worry about me I've got it on DVR and I've watched the highlights on the Postgame show with Bob Scanlan and Jenny Cavnar.  I'm going to be just fine.

The Giants are not going to be fine.  We have been unusually cruel to them this year. If I'm counting correctly, that's seven straight games that we've beaten San Francisco.  We're back with a 1.5 game lead again in the NL West.

I see that everybody is angry at those two fools that ran on the field, during Heath Bell's save.  I figure people running on the field is part of baseball.  It's going to happen, I don't get too worked up about it, but that's me.

Final - 5.17.2010 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E

Crowd chanting taze him was pretty funny. But the best chant of the night was in the ninth inning after the double and Giant fans were getting loud and everyone started chanting 7 and 0. 7 and 0.

Went to yesterday's game

That was decent pitching and some absolutely pathetic offense.
Venable and Blanks need to go back down to AAA. When Blanks struck out that was improvement because the ball didn’t go a negative distance (in that his previous two he fouled out). Venable just looks like he has no idea what’s going on.

Oh and if you jump out on the field to make a spectacle of yourself, you should be tasered. Multiple times. Put it in the contract

I think Blanks needs a trip to the DL

he isn’t even hitting fastballs. Mud, Endberg, and Gwynn were talking about how when a batter has a weakness, the pitchers will take advantage of it. Blanks’ weakness seems to be fastballs down the middle.

Venable has been our 5th best hitter so far this season. Why in the hell would we send him down to AAA?

5th best hitter or 5th most productive offensive player?

Because most numbers I’ve seen include SBs, which seem to be where he’s getting a lot of his value. However, if he can’t get on base much anymore that value is unlikely to persist.

However, that was more of a point of order than a referendum on what we should do with Venable. In this homestand we have seen that he is starting to get on base again, so sending him anywhere at this moment seems ill-timed.

wOBA does include SB and CS

I believe the formula is:

wOBA = (.72*NIBB + .75*HBP + .9*S + .92*ROE + 1.24*D + 1.56*T + 1.95*HR + .25*SB – .5*CS)/PA

Yeah, running on the field is just an expected part of baseball. When you’re in high school. Keep that sh_t out of my house. Stay off our field during the game or get your ass tased.
