Padres beat DBacks 6-3; Everth Cabrera with 4 RBI

PHOENIX - APRIL 06: Everth Cabrera #1 of the San Diego Padres hits a 2 RBI double against the Arizona Diamondbacks during the second inning of the major league baseball game at Chase Field on April 6, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

Padres win their first game of the season in spectacular fashion.  Hats off to Chris Young who really locked up Arizona hitters all night.  I admit I didn't think Young would be able to battle back from last year's injury but he kept his 85mph fast ball out of the zone and threw a breaking ball to keep batters off balance. Maybe he is the team Ace after all.

This team looks dangerous, like a convict with a temper, nothing to lose and a switch blade. Watching the end of this game, I realized that if was an opposing fan I'd be frightened of the Padres.

They have the ingredients to make this an exciting season of baseball.  Can't wait to see if this team shows up again tomorrow.  Hopefully Opening Day was a fluke.

Game MVP needs to go to Everth Cabrera.

  • Everth Cabrera with a single, a double, a triple, a rolled ankle and 4 RBI
  • Chris Young with 6 innings of one hit ball.
  • Adrian Gonzalez homers for the second game in a row
  • Will Venable's first hit of the season is a home run to deep right field.
  • Three stolen bases for the team

Everth also got a single.

Just a home run short of the cycle.

"I'm a Padre at heart. Always gonna root for the Padres. Twenty-five years [with this organization], how can't you? Next year I'm gonna be rooting like a son-of-a-gun for these guys and for Blackie ... I'm gonna be rooting for the next general manager here, rooting for the city, the fans, everybody. Buddy who is your #1 starter?

CY is too classy to say anything but giving Garland opening day after he, in his own words, did nothing to impress during the spring. Bush League – and I’m talking Matt with his fakey.

The Sacramento Kings - our guys have big mouthpieces.

I would rather have CY for the home Opener and miss Colorado in CO and Dan Haren.

Right move by Buddy.

I love it when people say stuff like...
…a home run to deep right field.

…because I’ve never actually witnessed a home run to shallow right field.

I was dating this girl from Canada... after about a month I found out she didn't know what sport the Padres played, she thought "padre" was spelled p-o-d-r-a-y and she thought it was some kind of a fish. Dealbreaker.

I've witnessed plenty to shallow left field

Can you imagine if the move to 3rd for Headley..

was all it was gonna take to get him rolling like he has so far this yr. Crazy to think a blue chip 3rd basemen and #1 prospect couldnt get his natural position. This could be the best part of that trade w/ Kouz

If I pick it, I flick it

by Duke Street Kings on Apr 7, 2010 4:58 AM PDT reply actions

Let's hear it for

our second cleanup hitter. If Cabrera’s gonna keep up those extra base hits, then Buddy should leave him hitting eighth. More RBI chances there :-)

In all seriousness, he ought to be first or second, with Eckstein eighth.

by ridethelightning on Apr 7, 2010 5:54 AM PDT reply actions

totally agree

I think Eckstein may be out of the lineup by the end of the season. He’s lost his consistency.

Ok so I just watched the highlights on mlb.com

and Dick Enberg has no idea who is on the field at any given time. Every time something happens he has to hesitate and check with Grant or his paper or whatever to see which names he should call.

but i prefer enberg over neely (no offense to him… don’t know if he ever reads glb). i like the sound of his voice, sounds like a grandpa. plus i like that he gets everyone’s names wrong. it’s entertaining =P
