Jerry Hairston attending the World Series ring ceremony yesterday at Yankee Stadium. At least he wasn't wearing a Yankee cap.

There is a related story about Hairston's trip here

Sounds like a warm reception for Hairston...
When Jorge Posada spotted Hairston in front of the dugout, he shook his head and asked why he was there.

"I flew here," Hairston said.

"Why?" Posada asked.

I interpreted that differently

I think it is just pointing out that Posada has won several rings, and didn’t realize how big a deal it is to someone such as Hairston to attend the ceremony. I don’t know what his schedule is, but Damon didn’t show up.
Hairston really wanted to be there.

Yeah, that's brutal.

I wasn’t quite sure what to make of that.

It does look weird with him being the only guy out of uniform

Should’ve worn his road jersey.

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔

At first I thought

he was some guy from the FO who got a ring.

I wonder if there is a rule about wearing a uniform on a field where your team is not playing.

I'd feel weird getting a ring in that context.

He was traded to the Yankees at the deadline and had fewer than 100 PAs for them. I guess I’d feel like I hadn’t earned it.

I hear ya!

He did however have a big hit in the playoffs against the Angels.
Thirteenth inning, he led off with a single, and scored the winning run.
He was a role player, but he made contributions. Every team has those type of players.

They mentioned that hit when he was introduced during the ceremony.
