    Stauffer

How about that Tim Stauffer performance last night ! Rockies announcers were raving about him and said his fastball was popping like it was before his surgery. The Padres have the best pen in the NL West.

Been a Stauffer fan... me and wonko

I really don’t know why we signed Garland. I have been advocating for using this year to figure out which of our young pitchers are keepers so that we can make the real push next year.

I understand why they wanted to sign Garland, but I don’t see how his signing made the club better in the long run. Yes, it may make us better in 2010… but I don’t think we expect to go to the playoffs this year.
I think we try to trade Garland/Correia/Young (one or two of those three mid-season) and attempt to make a push for 2011, 2012…

Young obviously is the larger injury risk

there’s so many question marks with him…he should be the one to go.

yeah, he really showed up last night.

HE showed some really good stuff, I mean REALLY good! What I think is interesting is how well he did in contrast to what some analysts thought would be a bad move by putting stauffer in the pen. I was pleasantly surprised by his performance:) Way to make those Analysts eat their words!

    Blanks

Why are we still batting him 4th?
He is clearly struggling. I don’t care if his average is low, but the number of strike outs plus low average is just horrendous.

I would think they would rest him for a couple of days or slot him to a less stressful position in the lineup. Maybe swap Everth into 3rd, Adrian 4th, and Blanks farther back…

Adrian, Chase, and Everth are currently the only guys in our lineup hitting…. and they are sooo spread out that it doesn’t matter. We need them to be back to back to back.

Anyone have any insight on the Blanks situation?

    He's 23 years old

And has fewer than 200 major league plate appearances. Give him time. That’s what this season is about anyway.

I think he's trying too hard

Watching the Rockies broadcast last night they were remarking that Blanks was trying to hit a home run when all they needed to win the game was a single. I completely agreed—we know the kid is a good hitter, but he needs to be coached so that he doesn’t have to try to hit a home run every time he’s out there. Adrian could give him some pointers about going to the opposite field….that would be really useful for the “almost-rookie”. Once he gets a bit more relaxed out there and comfortable I think he’ll do fine at cleanup.

    I agree

Look at how a simple change of approach can work using Headley as an example. Last year Headley was always out of sync with the nature of his swing. He was constantly trying to life the ball, forcing the bat through the zone, which led to a lot of awkward swings that resembled an individual swinging a 50 pound log. Blanks should move down in the order, that is a must. But we have to keep him in there so he can work himself out of it. It wasnt that long ago that Kouz was out third baseman and we had to watch him hack himself out of a hole for half a season. By the way, trading Kouz was the best thing we could have done for this team, he was the place where rallies went to die.

    It's only April 11

but so far Headley has seemed like a completely different player.
Stats aside, he just seems completely relaxed at the plate.

    Blanks will be o.k...

but maybe for now they may want to take some pressure off him by moving him down in lineup. I am thinking that he gets a rest today.
