Every time he opens his mouth, he gets dumber.

Also – I would love a moratorium on all things Jake right about now. It’s just tired and pointless.

Thank you for waving at me.

This is much more enjoyable

When you picture Peavy saying all of this in the middle of the ring.

And then he shuts up when Heath Bell’s music comes on and he runs out with a 2×4.

with a really bright future, Peavy sure does sound like a bitter old man. C’mon, Jake, playing in Chicago can’t be that bad. Millions of people live in the city. Though perhaps they all wish they could live in San Diego.

For one of the best pitchers to ever wear a padre uniform!! I’ll never forget what Peavy did for the padres while he was here but I do agree with other that he should keep some comments to himself and try to avoid a couple of questions here and there. I may have smoked my memory away

but I don’t remember Hoffy being completely free from blame during that ordeal.

by soulSD on Mar 4, 2010 12:15 AM PST up reply actions

Trevor was on vacation.

Sandy Alderson had no intention of bringing Hoffman back. Zero.

552

by wrveres on Mar 4, 2010 12:20 AM PST up reply actions

thats not how i remember it.

Trevor came back from vacation, and the offer was pulled. They had an artificial deadline, and they decided to spend the money on the slap hitting outfielder, with the intention of trading him.

552

by wrveres on Mar 4, 2010 11:53 AM PST up reply actions

This is how I remember it:

The details of the 4 million dollar offer and the “negotiations” were leaked by Trevor’s camp who felt the offer wasn’t enough and was essentially a way to push him out of SD because he could get more on the free market. Padres FO got upset about the leak. Trevor tried to schedule a meeting (while on vacation) to negotiate. Padres said “what is there to negotiate? this is what were offering.”

Trevor didnt want it. The offer was pulled. This happens every day in sports.

by soulSD on Mar 4, 2010 12:32 AM PST up reply actions

Anygay

this got off topic. I just dont think the Padres are this big evil entity. They have to make tough fiscal decisions that don’t always make people like you happy.

by soulSD on Mar 4, 2010 12:37 AM PST up reply actions

here the story.

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2008/nov/10/padres-pull-hoffman-contract-offer-table/

the guy was a franchise icon and they treated him like he was the beer vender looking to re-do the yearly contract.

552

by wrveres on Mar 4, 2010 12:38 AM PST up reply actions   1 recs

Bottom line:

Padres offered him 4 million. The deal was on the table for a month. Trevor didn’t take the deal. He got money elsewhere and is happy. The Padres have Heath Bell closing at like 2 million.

by soulSD on Mar 4, 2010 12:44 AM PST up reply actions

1.255 million

last year for Heath vs the 6 million Trevor would have wanted. Numbers bro.

by soulSD on Mar 4, 2010 12:47 AM PST up reply actions

Yes,

because Trevor would have pitched every night and made us not lose 99 games?

hoping to rock out to Hells Bells. yes.

at least they used to

by wrveres on Mar 4, 2010 12:51 AM PST up reply actions

We just have different

philosophies I guess. I love Hoffy but I love the Padres more. And in reality, the decision to let him go was a smart one that helped the club use money elsewhere and upped Bells value.

Could it have been handled differently? Sure. But I don’t think its fair to assume that Sandy had it out for Trevor and just wanted to kick him out.

by soulSD on Mar 4, 2010 1:01 AM PST up reply actions

He's been slipping.

Had a nice with the Brewskis but he blew like 9 saves the year we let him go. Don’t care if that’s correct, I’m not double-checking but I know the number of blown saves was TOO high.

Yup, I'm the nut who believes Mark Loretta is a possible future Hall of Famer.

Not to nitpick

because I agree with your point, but we lost, I don’t feel like looking it up, but I think 87 games.

Just thought I’d whisper that before someone else screamed it at you.

could you imagine the Orioles telling Cal Ripken

nope you don’t get a meeting with the owner. “Thats not how we do things, and as a matter of fact, we are pulling our really low offer”.

he was shown the door ..

Trevor wanted to discuss his future with the organization. Future as in 10 years from now.

he was told no.

correction, he was told nothing. he got no reply, until after the offer was pulled.

552

by wrveres on Mar 4, 2010 12:54 AM PST up reply actions

Different situation

cannot even compare that. But this happens all the time in sports. Shit, even Joe Montana was let go at the end of his career and he means more to the 49ers than Hoffman will ever mean to the Padres.

by soulSD on Mar 4, 2010 1:03 AM PST up reply actions

im not familar with how Joe Montana left.

but its my guess that they gave him a little respect.

I’ll simply agree to disagree with ya.

Sandy had no intention on bringing back Trevor. You laid out that case very well up above by showing the differences between Bell and Hoffmans salary’s, and in the end that’s all Sandy cared about. the bottom line.

And you know what, i was fine with that. I had hoped Trevor would of stayed, but i kind of saw the writing on the wall during the season.

To me though, it was “the process”. It was the cold hearted f__k off they sent him out the door with.
