We're going to Spring Training on Friday

Dex and I are driving out to Spring Training on Friday.  I'm trying to estimate the number of stops we'll need to make in order to properly plan out our schedule.  With my weak bladder and Dex's beef jerky cravings I'm thinking 14 stops seems about right.

Last time I went I flew into Phoenix.  Is there anything good to stop and see on the drive out to Peoria?  I saw that someone mentioned that there are Traffic Cameras that catch speeders in Arizona. That's a helpful hint that I'm glad I found out before the drive.  What else do we need to know?

Dex was wondering if anybody can recommend any good books on tape that we can download?  We'll probably need a break from playing slug bug for a few minutes.  We favor really sad books on tape, but baseball related books would be nice too.

Who wants souvenirs? If you want us to send you a postcard email us your mailing address and we'll send you one from a truck stop or a brothel.

At this point, since I've run out of things to say, I'll recycle my treasured stories from my last trip to Spring Training two years ago to get you me psyched for this trip.

The Sound and the Fury

I’m trying to get through this audiobook while at the gym these days. It hasn’t been easy so far.

The spaceship motel and the roadside dinosaur and snake statues are not to be missed on Highway 85 near Gila Bend.

Is very bad to steal Jobu's rum. Is VERY bad.

Rest Stops / Things in AZ that we don't have here...

Avoid the rest area east of El Centro/west of Yuma. They are “perma-potties” now (hole in the ground), but the contractor doesn’t clean them up as they should be. Not so bad now I’m sure, but in the summer, that’s a special smell.

Also, I try to go to places (restaurants, mainly I guess) that we don’t have in SD. Buffalo Wing Wings is fun. Pizzeria Blanco and Mac Alpine’s are great local, non-chain, places.

4 Peaks Brewery in Tempe

Has been recommended to me several times, but its a little out of the way for the Peoria crowd.

If you go to Glendale to see the Padres, they have Chicago-style hot dogs at most of the concession stands (pickle, tomato slice, onions, celery salt, etc.)

No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong.

Are you taking the 8 or the 10?

I take the 10. Blythe is always a nice spot to stop and check out the local suffering.

If the KFC still has that 13pc. Dark Meat Bucket, may as well buy it.

Date Shake

It’s right off the 8, on the right side when you are headed out. I think it’s near the AZ border. I made the mistake of getting a large Date Shake…. barely made it, if you know what I mean.

Date shakes are fantastical

They have flavors now,too.

I like the regular date flavor. I suck it so fast .

about you going on dates, but I haven’t figured it out yet.

No tickets yet

Probably get them there.

by jbox on Mar 17, 2010 9:53 AM PDT up reply actions

so whats the secret signal?

We’ve met, so thats not a problem.

But I dont know what cubbuster, or some of the other peeps look like.

Friday, down the 1st base line or behind the dugout. Sis has the tickies.
Saturday, both games, on the grass near the bullpens.

by eastbaysd on Mar 17, 2010 8:33 PM PDT up reply actions

For me I think for Saturday we are in the box seats right next to first base. Sunday same but third base.

Or it could be the other way around. I just know we are right down towards the edge.
