Get thee to Peoria
I just got back from my first trip to Spring Training and I want to encourage anyone who hasn't gone before to go for it. It was great to see the Padres in a more casual atmosphere with less glitz and noise. My friends and I had advance tickets for the game against the Cubs but didn't really need them and did just as well on the days when we got tickets at the gate. The tickets are cheap, there really aren't any seats in these parks that wouldn't be considered field level at Petco and you can hear what's being exclaimed and argued about on the field from most seats. We walked up to the gate at the Rangers training facility in Surprise Arizona two hours before game time and scored tickets in the front row behind the Padres dugout. We were able to get Adrian Gonzalez' autograph and saw him hold many a baby for photos. Between innings I caught a ball thrown into the stands by Nick Hundley. In Peoria I got to go on the field between innings and participate in a ridiculous contest for a lame t-shirt and a one in thirty chance of winning a cruise to Alaska. It was semi-humiliating but I was victorious, got to be on the field and may yet win that cruise. We all had a relaxing time and are already making plans for next year.

How hard is it to keep it under 76?
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong.

Don't remind me!
We’ll have to wait and see if I got my photo taken by the AZ police state. It’s tough to avoid with all the freeway cameras, mobile freeway cameras and cameras at intersections with unprotected left turns.

It is not a police state
The police aren’t involved. The tickets are civil case, it’s a private contractor that is issuing them, not the police.

By police state I was not really referring to the police force
but to the big brother condition of their state when it comes to highways. Also, it was an exaggeration. I’m actually a big proponent of obeying the laws. The cameras on the 75 zones are no problem, I just use cruise control for those open stretches anyway. The ones that bother me are the ones in 65 zones that cause the entire population to drive 60 and the ones at busy intersections with unprotected left turns.

I don't think
The cameras are actually on the 75 zones. They are only in areas where the speed limit is 55 or 65. It’s just that they don’t trigger until you go 11 miles an hour over the speed limit. So you just have to keep it under 76 or 66. The only area I know where they have them in a 55 zone is on the 17 when you are getting close to the 10 and that’s usually jammed anyway.

Nice!
I will be there this weekend. Will see Padres in Peoria and in Surprise.

Surprise sucks, it's in the middle of nowhere
Don’t get stuck behind a train.
Saturday is a rare split squad game where the Padres play at two different times and they are both in Glendale. It’s like a doubleheader! Are you telling me you are going to miss out on this epic experience?

I am going to the night game against the Dodgers and then the Sunday day against Texas.
Drive out Saturday, drive back after the game on Sunday.

when I was deciding which weekend to go this year it was a very easy choice. Game agaist the doggers on Friday. Doubleheader on Saturday that includes a game against the doggers as well.
