Listening to the Brewer game also. Gallagher has had a pretty good start outside of the first two batters of the game.

Latos's pitches look nasty on Gameday

He’s throwing four different pitches: a fastball that’s been as fast as 95, a slider at 87, a changeup at 83, and a curve at 77.

I kinda wish we could...

do that like once a week….
It could be a once per week power… kinda like “phone a friend”.

The manager (or GM) would signal to the umpire that they want to use their weekly lifeline and have the current or preceding inning erased from the game score. I’m not exactly sure how it would work, but with all of the sabermaticians out there, I’m sure we could finagle out the details.

Why do you think Stauffer is more likely to win the spot than Gallagher?

They’re both out of options. Just because Stauffer did a passable job in the role last year you think?

"I aim to misbehave." - Mal Reynolds

by Zach (maestro876) on Mar 10, 2010 2:09 PM PST up reply actions

Because I think they will want to keep both

And I don’t think they’ll send Stauffer to the bullpen. I think they also realize that it hardly matters who begins the season as the 5th starter. At some point all of the 5th start candidates will make major league starts this year.

"I aim to misbehave." - Mal Reynolds

by Zach (maestro876) on Mar 10, 2010 2:12 PM PST up reply actions

Stauffer had his shot in the rotation.

Gallagher has a higher ceiling and could potentially eclipse Stauffer in terms of ceiling. The guys just got fantastic stuff when he’s on. I’d like to see him get every shot of relizing his potential. What else have we got to do next season but develop talent?

Check out this clip an imagine him developing this potential on a consistent basis.

They should have dumped him before the 09 season

And signed Uribe. Of course, then ECab would have never got his shot. So, thanks Luis for sucking so hard!

His OBPs weren't terrible

So his average doesn’t bother me. It’s his defense, baserunning and slugging that were gross.

If Antonelli hits enough

he’ll put the same pressure that was on when Headley and Blanks were tearing it up. We could be talking Second Savior status.

I know I just got through a rant about spring training stats not mattering...

But considering that he could hit himself out of a paper bag last here, Antonelli getting hits the last few games is really flooring me.

Plus, I realized that I may have been a little over excited about the whole thing
But I agree, it is exciting to see them get some time in. I just hope the next time (well, if there is one) Rincon goes in, the game is at least on MLB.tv. He’s a good kid

Wow

I did not know that. I am a terrible Padre fan.
But I did know that, apparently, Mauricio Tabachnik is the son of a politician in Mexico and that when he goes home he has to have secret service follow him around. Or something to that effect. That should make up for it, maybe?
