I think it might be too late to attend that one.

I'm the first person to admit that I'm wrong about a lot of things, but I'm going to be the last person to admit I'm wrong about what we're currently talking about.

I was there for that game

I was also at the game earlier that season in which aj burnett threw a no no. My dad had been a season ticket holder for 17 years and had never seen a no hitter, both of these games he made excuses not to go so I took a friend instead. Needless to say he still hates himself.

I missed it

I was in college at the time. I saw the A.J. Burnett one though. I don’t even remember noticing it was a no hitter until the game was over. We had so many guys on base it felt like we were still in it.

I'm the first person to admit that I'm wrong about a lot of things, but I'm going to be the last person to admit I'm wrong about what we're currently talking about.

The AJ Burnett no hitter

The couple sitting next to me was leaving in the 7th inning and I asked them what the hell was wrong with them and if they had any idea what was happening. Which they didn’t because of all of the base runners.9 base on balls are you kidding me! They ended up staying and the guy thanked me afterwords can you imagine him telling the story that he left a no-hitter because his girlfriend wanted to leave.

Yeah I was there too.

We laughed at the absurdity of Pujols’ name for the first time.

Baseball is so much more forgiving to the aging athlete

You can become a DH or a PH or a reliever or a 5th starter. You can even ply your trade in the minors if you don’t want to leave the game just yet. You can play in winter leagues until your 50 (although it helps to be Latino for that one).

In football, there is no room for athletes to age gracefully. Starters have to produce in all phases of their game (unlike DHs), backups have to play special teams, which veteran players long stopped practicing years ago, and there are no minor leagues. It’s a rough business getting old there.

I'm the first person to admit that I'm wrong about a lot of things, but I'm going to be the last person to admit I'm wrong about what we're currently talking about.

Very true.

It’s crazy how physically demanding football is for the short lifespan.

Oh internet, what a wicked web you weave.

Yeah

When was the last time you saw a 40 year old quarterback, punter, or kicker?

by Baron Von Metzger on Feb 26, 2010 8:26 AM PST up reply actions

In Wonko's defense...

40 year old QB’s are rare. As for kickers and punters…Wonko did say “athletes”.

by Drama on Feb 26, 2010 10:24 AM PST up reply actions

I think you misunderstood how I used "aging"

I didn’t just mean getting older. I also meant declining in skill with age. If a guy can play at 40 better than some 20 something year old (like Brett Favre or Jeff Feagles or, until this year, John Carney), then any sport has room for that guy.

I'm the first person to admit that I'm wrong about a lot of things, but I'm going to be the last person to admit I'm wrong about what we're currently talking about.

Totally unrelated,

but how awesome is it to hear Matty V’s voice on the Olympics?
