According to Nightengale they were willing to trade "Gordon Beckham and prospects" for Gonzalez, but the Padres preferred the Red Sox’s all-prospect offer featuring Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo, and Reymond Fuentes.

Assets: Has a great arm...
…and the ability to play all over the infield. Boasts good power and overall hitting skills.
Flaws: Isn’t a big guy, so he must become adept at doing the little things in order to maximize his big-league potential.
Career Potential: Potential star second baseman.
I believe he suffered a sophomore slump last season and will rebound next year.
