Kind of sad to see Cole get shipped off
He had a lot of potential, but he was a previous regime pick. Jed is quickly making his mark on the Padres.

Unless the PTBNL is exceptional this is a pretty awful trade. Bartlett was a non-tender canidate and adding Gomes and Cole to the trade is insane.
This is significantly more than was first reported.
I didn’t mind losing Ramos, but I was a little sad to see Russell go since I felt that he had potential to be quite good. I understood it though, and losing two backend relievers for a starting SS was certainly more than acceptable.
Gomes and Figueroa change my view a bit though…
Gomes has some real nasty stats, although the fact that they left him in AA when he was an older player might be a red flag of some sort. I like Evan Scribner more anyways…
The inclusion of Figueroa seems odd though from the standpoint that he is a rare solid middle infield prospect of which the Padres do not have very many.
I hope the inclusion of these new two names, who are both pretty good prospects it seems like, means that the PTBNL is somebody that’s pretty decent (not somebody like Eric Patterson).
To be fair to Eric Patterson, he had a down year playing and was playing out of position
I don’t think he is the second coming of Chase Utley, but he could surprise people. Eric at 2B and Everth at SS for AAA has the potential for a dynamic, exciting middle infield combo. (Sort of like what the Padres should have with O-Dogg and the Pear.

I'm eager to find out who the PTBNL is.
We can’t judge the trade very well until that’s announced.
Happy to have a solid middle infield in the meantime.
