Padres GM Hoyer hopes to keep Gonzalez, Bell - USATODAY.com
Hoyer says that if Gonzalez wants Mark Teixeira or Ryan Howard money, "that's not something we're going to be able to do. He's a great player, great guy and it would be wonderful if we could work something out but given his talent level and what some other guys at his position have signed for, if his desire is to go after those kind of dollars, it's going to be hard. that's just the reality of free agency." -
Enberg can't wait to do it again - SignOnSanDiego.com
"The whole experience has really surprised me. I never thought I’d even be ruminating over these possiblities. I’m seriously thinking about what do I want to do with the rest of my life. I know part of that answer is I want to continue to do baseball." -
Moorad wishes he'd spoken up about Burrell - SignOnSanDiego.com
"While we’d still love to have Adrian here long-term, it doesn’t appear to be practical from a financial standpoint. So I’m certainly not counting on that. But we’ll engage and see if there’s a deal that can be made." -
Padres add more lower-priced seats for 2011, further discount season ticket packages - SignOnSanDiego.com

The Sacrifice Bunt " Weirdly timed Oktoberfest wrapup
"The beer dispensaries were spread evenly all across the park at the park lawn, while $5 cups of beer were prepaid at separate booths. Apparently people in San Diego really do love their beer, though everyone had unfettered access to their favorite, or new favorite brewery."
Dear John letters: Your 2010 San Diego Padres - Big League Stew - MLB - Yahoo! Sports
"All that said, it was a semi-successful year. No one gave you a chance before the season and you proved the experts wrong. Just please just don't choke down the stretch next year. The black cloud in my mind can't afford to get any bigger."
Websoulsurfer: Do you find yourself not caring much about the playoffs? - A San Diego Padres Blog
"I think it was the Padres complete collapse down the stretch. I think the players on the team I am a rabid fan of not seeming to care down the stretch rubbed off on me and now I don't care much about these playoff games one way or another. "
THE KEPT FAITH: Dead and Gone
No more cheery Macy Gray music till next season.
Woe, Doctor!: Things We Lost in the Fire
"This is the first Padres team to win 90 games since '98, and we all remember how that ended. Some of us (mainly Heath Bell) may have gone a little overboard embracing the "underdog" role, but it seemed to keep fuel in the team's collective gas tank for 90% of the season. Problem is, 90% of the season will not guarantee a playoff spot."

I think Scotty finally knows...
One player who might be gone is outfielder Scott Hairston. He took the name plate from above his locker.

crazy
to think that if we had picked up Burrell we would have won the division by 6 games. What ever happened to Brad Hawpe, we should have got him too.

How would we have won the division by six games?

because burrell probably added 2-3 wins for the giants
and if he added 1-2 for us and substracted 2-3 from the giants that gets us to winning; ok, not by 6, but by 2-4 games; but who cares. we win.
Well we have this tool that shows how many wins a player added to his team.
Burrell was worth just under three wins to the Giants. So if he’s not with the Giants they probably play Schierholtz or someone in that spot, who’s not a bad player. The net loss is probably about two wins.
The question for me is whether Burrell would have performed like he did with the Giants if he played for us. Maybe? As Wonko pointed out, the Giants protected him by benching him against pitchers and in situations where he struggled. Whether Buddy would have done the same thing is open to debate.
So the answer to the question is maybe?

Does anyone see Josh Barfield as a legitimate 2nd base candidate for next season?
I was really hoping we’d see Antonelli, but he may still be rehabbing at that point.
TBD
I don't.

That's probably a reason why Jed plucked Jarrett Hoffpaiuer off of waivers from the BJs
Though I don’t want to see him playing at the big league level.

Anyone know how the playoff refunds work?
They automatically refund your card right? How long does it take?
Mat Latos is the real deal...Go Lakers, Pads, and Bolts
I keep hearing that you have to mail your tickets back to get the refund.
But I’m so lazy and I ran outta stamps.
I need new pants.
I put mine at will-call in 2007
and it took about six weeks to process my refund minus the non-refundable per ticket charge.
They way I read it.
They will refund the original purchaser’s credit card. If the tickets have been resold that person needs to deal with the original purchaser.
