I've never claimed to be a big Padre fan, but I follow the team because of Gaslamp and the good friends behind it. I've been keeping up with the playoff chase as a good baseball fan and was finding myself excited at the possibility of the sweep of the Giants in such a high pressure environment. To win those first two and have the Braves on the outs as well, it was just too tempting to get yourself thinking that these Pads were going to pull it off. Then we all know what happened.....
It got me thinking about how painful being a sports fan can be and in keeping with the recent theme of finding movie clips to signify that feeling, the one that stood out for me after this weekend was the infamous knife scene from Saving Private Ryan (vid after the jump).
Now, I'm not trying to compare the importance of WWII with some relatively trivial baseball games, but the emotions are there (I think).
The battle for your life
The high intensity of the situation
The hopelessness felt by some
The pleading for it not to be over..not this way...at the last moments of life
The feeling of the survivors that you could've/should've done something more
and of course, that feeling of the knife going thru your heart.
Money shot starts around the 2:30 mark. ....warning for extremely violent content
