Masur's Musings: Happy New Year...
I was chatting with Corey Brock of mlb.com about Hairston Jr. We both agreed that he'd be a great influence in the clubhouse, like his brother Scott was. He's also a player that gives you a lot of versatility. He can play the outfield, shortstop and second base. -
New Management Must Care Less About Families Than Old Management :: Friar Forecast
Two years ago, when the Padres raised ticket prices, the team cited the need to "promote a family atmosphere" as the rationale for the increased prices. As I wrote at the time, that excuse was utter baloney. Either that, or Moorad and company care less about promoting a family atmosphere than Alderson and friends… - Vote for Pad Squad Amanda to represent the San Diego Chargers at the Super Bowl - Gaslamp Ball

The MLB Hall of Fame inductees for 2010 will be announced today. Based on my experiences having played both with and against most of the candidates on the ballot, the two players that I believe MUST be admitted this year are Robby Alomar, and Andre Dawson. Who do you think is most deserving? -

What about Rocco Baldelli for CF
This occured to me when I was reading that our CF options appear to be Randy Winn or Reed Johnson. Baldelli is at least a right handed hitter with a lot of speed. I know he’s had a really rough last few years, but he’s still only about 28 year old. I would imagine that he would come pretty cheap as well.
Baldelli did spend last year with the Red Sox, so I would have to imagine that he is somewhere on Hoyer’s radar…a Baldelli/Gwynn platoon sounds a lot more exciting than Randy Winn.
I've been thinking that this hole offseason
There must be something about Baldelli that makes him unacceptable. He has the medical issues, but we wouldn’t be asking him to start every day so I’m thinking there is some issue beyond that. Like he isn’t actually going to play this year, or his asking price is insane or he wants to play on the east coast. Or maybe, from familiarity, Hoyer knows something we don’t.
I'm the first person to admit that I'm wrong about a lot of things, but I'm going to be the last person to admit I'm wrong about what we're currently talking about.
that is definitely possible
He wasn’t even that bad in a reserve role for the Red Sox last year so im surprised there isn’t more interest. He definitely seems like a low risk/high reward guy. MLBtraderumors also just listed him as being possibly tied to the yankees…. maybe Hoyer is just hoping to wait out the market and see if he can snatch up baldelli at the last minute as one of his “bargains”
