Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

Ultimately, Peavy was ready to go to the Cubs because he was a little "more familiar with their personnel and the league they play in." He turned down the White Sox initially because his family called San Diego home and the Padres were in early contention.

He turned down the White Sox initially because the Padres were in early contention?

Ummm… am I “misremembering” this or did we suck when he turned down the first trade?

  • Just checked, we were 18-22 and 10 games behind the Dodgers.

i don't usually give the front office a ton of credit...

but I think even they knew after 40 games what type of season this was going to be. we weren’t exactly looking like a playoff team and they knew they weren’t about to make an mid-season acquisitions.

keep in mind that on May 21st we still had Giles and Gerut in the outfield, Burke/LRod playing ss and Geer in our rotation. things were a lot worse than they are now.

keep in mind it was peavy who turned down the deal
not the front office

Yeah, but my point is...

that we have a front office that likes to try to convince people that we’ve got a competitive team, even when we’re losing and have a bunch of AAA players out there. So, when EVEN they’ve given up on the season… Peavy should have realized then that we weren’t going to be competitive this year.

You'd have to be deaf, dumb, and blind

to think that we were contending .

This article was just a spin to make White Sox fans think that Peavy really wants to be there…

"Get on board early," Black said, alluding to, what he feels, is a crop of up-and-coming players.

keep in mind

the front office had a better idea than anyone they were flat out not spending a dime this season, that might have given them a little heads up!

In the hack's defense

He did not specifically say what the Padres were in early contention for.
