Clayton Richard Starts Tonight
Richard takes the mound Saturday for the second game in the Padres' three-game series against the Brewers at PETCO Park. Richard replaces scheduled starter Edward Mujica, who was promoted from the bullpen earlier this week to replace struggling Josh Geer in the Padres' rotation.

im very excited for it. This is our first look at the plan. I think the removal of Peavy (despite the good times) is great for the Padres. It brought more drama than wins and was a financial burden. Now we can focus money on talent in the younger guys. Maybe we can hold onto Gonzo. Blanks is a beast and there is no doubt in my mind he hits 40 jacks next year. We finally have a 3-4 in the lineup that can cause pitchers some fear. We finally have a basketball team in our bullpen which can cause hitters some fear. We finally have some flexibility in payroll to be aggressive in the offseason. GO PADS!
Stoked to see what we got.

Richard's last two starts:
Jul 26 @ Det 8IP, 5H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 3K
Jul 21 TB 8IP, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 7K
You don’t want to look at his start from July 9 though. In reviewing his game log it appears he has been fairly consist ~5-6 IP with 3-4ER. He has shown flashes of quality starts, and hopefully the staff can mold him into a consistent pitcher.
TBD
Keep in mind
He’s moving from an extreme hitters park to an extreme pitchers part. Not to mention moving from the AL to the NL.

True.
Plus working with one of the best pitching coaches in the game (two, if you count Black, who for all his failings as a manager is pretty good at coaching pitchers).

US Cellular isn't an extreme hitter's park
It’s 20th best park for run scoring. It is a homer happy park, so maybe that’s what you’re thinking of. It’s the 6th best park for HRs.
Memo to baseball managers: You manufacture runs by NOT making outs, not by making them on purpose.
Let's see what he can do
both he and Poreda can be big components in a new rotation with Gallagher and Latos and Stauffer
Maybe this move will solidify a very shaky rotation
