Around SBN: Knicks 90, Raptors 87: "Shump and Lin wouldn't let us lose."

Might Gonzalez need a day off now?

"In my eyes, there are two options," Gonzalez said. "Either don't play the entire series in San Francisco or let me grind it out.

"I've never believed one day off is going to change anything. So those are the only two options I see worth anything. Two days, no."

Is Gonzalez tired?

"Physically, no," he said. "Mentally, yes.

Too much weight on AG's shoulders right now

…..he’s opened up his strike zone and he’s swinging at stuff he never would have a couple months ago. I guess that’s what happens when you know you’re the only real hitter in the line-up.

It's a consecutive starts streak

he needs to start and get 1 AB before coming out. A pinch hit won’t do it. But I really could care less right now. Since walking twice in a game for 8 consecutive games he has only walked twice or more 5 times. He’s struck out twice in a game 4 times in the month of July alone. Somethings not right.

I can't believe the importance being placed on this ridiculous streak.

You don’t ask him if he needs a day or off or two because Aid is the type of player that will never ask or tell his manager to sit him…he needs a manager that will make the decision for him. It’s Buddy’s job to protect the players. There are people out there that actually give a shit about this stupid streak (some probably even in the Padres front office)…when he does get that day off they should be able to point the finger at Bud and not at Aid.

How is this even a decision? The guy is a GREAT hitter and he’s so exhausted, mentally and physically, that he’s almost completely ineffective. I really wish Bud would grow a pair and give the guy a couple of days off. I can’t believe this guy is going to get an extension.

Hmm

The type of guty that would never ask or tell a manager to sit him, but he is the type to say, essentially, I need 3 days in a row off. Maybe he should speak up more often. But what the hell, give him 3 days off. he did ask for it.

I didn't read it that way.

I read it that he could care less about the streak and if the manager sits him for the Giants series he’s not going to have a problem with it.

exactly

Don’t sit me one day, play me and i’ll grind through (I am sucking wind and you shouldn’t take me up on this offer), or at least give me the weekend off. I’ll fly to meet my girlfriend in cabo and RE-lax.

Better give it to him or he may get Adrian Gonzalez’s Disease.

Wrong again, Drama

He’s only exhausted mentally. Check your facts, a-hole.

He seriously needs to sit for a series.

He’s dying out there, at the plate and in the field. All you need to do is watch the game yesterday to see that.

He needs to keep playing

Or cupcake can take a little baby doll nitey nite rest. It’s his choice.

by Dex on Jul 9, 2009 9:22 AM PDT reply actions

So we offer to give him a day off, and he says he'll sit the entire series?

so true

you can learn a lot from that little mouse

he would have been able to rest during the all star break

but no, everybody had to cast meaningless votes for him, votes that sent a clear message “entertain us! perform for us! whatever you do don’t take a day off”
