Why was 5 scared for 6? Open Thread, 7/8/9: Padres vs D-Backs

San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks, Jul 8, 2009 12:40 PM PDT

I really think we're due to start another really lengthy winning streak. Any day now. Any day now.

That, or we're due to get swept by a team that really doesn't look that much better than us, yet they totally are.

In other news Everth Cabrera is like the best thing ever. In other other news, there's somebody catching for us named Jose Lobaton.

GO PADRES!

i think

everth is becoming more popular than tony jr.. also headley who everybody is giving up on is hitting .322/.386/.462 on the road. (and hitting .149 at home)

by bcamp on Jul 8, 2009 12:30 PM PDT reply actions

I sure as hell am not giving up on Headley.

He’s got the talent, he just needs time. I’d expect him to have a break-out season next year.

I feel optimistic today

A-Go hits 2 bombs, and Blanks gets his first pinch hitting for Gaudin in the 9th

by 1210pads on Jul 8, 2009 12:35 PM PDT reply actions

Hahaha.

It’s just that there doesn’t seem to be anywhere for Logan.

3B for Headley (assuming he comes around), SS for Cabrera, 2B for Zawadzki (assuming he keeps this up)…where do you put him?

by Zach (maestro876) on Jul 8, 2009 12:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Why not keep Chase in LF?

Might as well get as many good bats in the lineup as we can. I don’t see a future for Blanks on the Padres.

I agree with you about Blanks.

I think his best function will be as a trading chip.

As for Chase in left, I hate seeing non-outfielders play the outfield. I also think he would probably hit better at 3B.

Lobaton

For no reason at all, I expect good things from him.

Maybe Kouz talked Chad into hitting Drew, for all those hits he’s taken away from him the last couple days.

Hello, I do not have tickets to the Nationals, but I do have a video tape of my 7-year-old’s little league team game last week. He plays for the Arby’s Allstars, and they beat the Smith Hardware Little Leaguers. I am sure it will be way more entertaining than watching the Nationals get their ass whooped for the 49th time this season.
