"Dodged" a bullet there.

We could have had Martin??
I thought he was an untouchable on that team.

which means absolutely nothing.

That would've given me SERIOUS pause
That would have been a huge haul and basically fixed alot of positions

Supposedly the Padres agreed and the Dodgers backed out……….not sure how to handle that

The same link
confirms my suspicions that we’ll be resuming talks with the Red Sox this off-season about Adrian.
Buchholz will be a Padre yet!

Which Martin?
Uh, the Dodgers have a minor leaguer named Martin. Is somebody assuming it was supposed to be Russell Martin? The Dodgers starting catcher? If it’s the minor leaguer, does that change anybody’s assessment of the trade?

It was Russell Martin.

It was a flawed deal
McDonald isn’t all that great, Loney has zero power compared to Adrian, and DeWitt is a superutility guy. All that for what will let the Dodgers run away with the NL West for the next five years? Screw that.

I agree with this
This Dodger-Padre potential deal makes me uncomfortable. Plus, Loney is useless with Blanks on our roster. Wasn’t part of the point of trading Adrian to open up 1B for Blanks. I’m really glad this deal didn’t happen. Plus, I’m not a fan of Dewitt, he might as well be Edgar Gonzalez.

The fact that they were willing to give up Martin though
just blows my mind. He was supposed to be an untouchable.

it blows my mind that a player with a .322 slg was supposed to be untouchable

He's having a rough season
but they think he’s the best catcher in the NL.

I think McCann has solidified that title
If Martin bounces back next year he can solidify the #2 spot (although there’s not much competition there).
