Rotation - Hope for the (very near) future?
I saw Latos pitch last night, then Carillo for the Beavers. It was beautiful. So a potential 2010 rotation of Peavy, Young, Latos and Carillo, followed by one of several available options as a fifth starter looks pretty good right now. Behind them are the middle guys who are pitching well lately and close with Bell. This could happen next year! It could be an epic turnaround if the Padres hold on to some bats and speed: AG, Gwynn, Blanks, Headly, Kouz and Cabrerra.

Based on today's game so far...
Stauffer would make a great 5th starter.

pssst Peavy's as good as gone
So is Bell. So is anyone we can trade for cheap labor. Just say’n its gunna be hard to predict what this team will look like the next few years.

Peavy ain't going anywhere
He still has a no trade clause and if the Padres are showing promise, he won’t want to leave. Plus, his value this offseason is going to be even less than it was last offseason.

we dont have the money to keep him here
unfortunately, i would be shocked if he makes it to the beginning of next season in a Pads jersey

I'm starting to think along those lines as well
"Get on board early," Black said, alluding to, what he feels, is a crop of up-and-coming players.

If the trades happen that we'd like to happen
Our rotation next year could conceivably be:
Peavy
Latos
Buchholz
Gallagher
Stauffer/Young/Bowden
Obviously we don’t know how the younger guys will progress. But that has the potential of being a very good rotation.

Hill is out all next year too.
I’d bet his career is done.
Ditto for Prior.

Yeah, I'll eat crow on that one
I’m really surprised that the White Sox traded for an injured pitcher (no way that happens if it was an arm injury). And even more surprised that they didn’t ask for a discount to do it.

Is he as good?
