Minor League Report 7/20/09
AAA-Portland Beavers
Beavers 8 Reno 7 F/10 Box
- Will Inman ONCE AGAIN gets shelled early and often. 6 ER on 7 hits in only 3 IP including 3 BBs 0 Ks and 2 HRs. In my opinion, Inman is pretty much done at this point and is a bust/non-prospect. He did decently in AA this season but his peripherals were still awful. At Portland this season, in 63 IP he's only Ked 41 but given up 83 Hs and 25 BBs giving him an impressive 1.71 WHIP. He also has given up 15 HRs; he must be taking lessons from Josh Geer.
- The Portland bullpen however only allowed one more ER in the last 7 Innings given the Beaver offense time to get back into the game something that doesn't happen often. Jon Hudgins (2IP 1 ER), Scott Patterson(1 IP 2 Ks), Eulogio De la Cruz(1 IP), and Edwin Moreno (3IP W 2-1) pitched in.
- Peter Ciofrone hit a pinch hit grand slam in 4th hitting for Inman as the Beavers put up 5 in the frame. Chad Huffman drove in a run in the 9th with one of two doubles on the night and Mike Baxter had an RBI double in the top of the 10th to put the Beavers ahead for good. The Beavers also turned 4 double plays on the night.
AA-San Antonio Missions
Missions 2 Frisco 1 Box
- Corey Kluber (W 1-0) made his first start for SA on this season and it was a good one. He pitched 6 scoreless giving up only 3 hits with 6 Ks and 1 BB. Brandon Gomes (1 IP H), Mike DeMark (0.2 IP H), and closer Evan Scribner (1.1 IP 16th Save) finished the game.
- Seth Johnson and Craig Cooper had 3 hits a piece to pace the Missions. Johnson had a RBI single in the 2nd and Logan Forsythe hit a sac-fly in the sixth to score Lance Zawadski to account for the Missions two scores.
High A- Lake Elsinore Storm
Storm 5 Inland Empire 9 Box
- After starting the season off nicely at Fort Wayne, Anthony Bass made his first start for the Storm. It only lasted 2IP however where he gave up one hit and had 2Ks. I can't find anything about why he was taken out after only two innings it could have been any number of things.
- The bullpen did not continue the good pitching. Craig Italiano (L 5-7 2IP 4ER), Matt Teague (2.1 IP 2 ER 2 Ks), and Eric Gonzalez (1.2 IP 3ER 2 Ks) did not exactly get the job done.
- Brad Chalk and Beamer Weems (2B) had 2 hits and 2 RBIs a piece for the Storm. Sawyer Carroll added an RBI groundout.
Low A-Fort Wayne Tincaps
Fort Wayne 1 Quad Cities 0 F/7 Box
- Erik Davis (W 9-4) started this rain-shortened, offensive struggle. He went 5IP scoreless allowing only 3 singles with 5 Ks and 1 BB. Nick Schumacher (1 IP 2Ks) and closer Brad Brach (1IP 24th S 2 Ks) finished the game.
- An Allan Dykstra RBI single in the first accounted for the only run scored in the game. Dykstra went 1-3 to raise his robust AVG to .200. So far, Dykstra's pick in the first round is already looking like a total bust. His OBP may still be .382 but he is SLG only .336. Wow.
Short Season Eugene Emeralds
Emeralds 9 Tri-City 6 Box
- Nicholas Greenwood (W 3-0) made his sixth start of the season and continued his run of success. He only went 5IP and allowed 3 Runs on 5 singles but none of them were earned; the Emeralds committed 4 errors on the game. He struck out 7 and walked 1 to lower his ERA to 0.85.
- Tyson Bagley (1IP H 2Ks), Mauricio Tabachnik (1IP H 2ER), Jeff Ibarra (1IP H), and David Erickson (1IP) finished off the the for Greenwood.
- Vince Belnome, Edinson Rincon, and Matt Vern had 2 RBIs a piece. Belnome had 3 hits including a 2 run HR, Rincon had a 2B and 2 BBs, and Vern added a 3B. Jason Hagerty added a solo HR in the 9th
Rookie League AZL Padres
Padres 10 A's 3 Box
- It seems Australian starter John Hussey had trouble with his control with 6 BBs in 3.2 IP. He was pulled after giving up 2 ER on 5 hits. Juan Chavez (W 1-1 1.1 IP) picked up the win in relief. Luis De La Cruz (2 IP), Andrew Morton (1IP 1R), and Brett Holland (1 IP) finished off the game.
- Cameron Monger, Jonathan Alia, and Cody Decker had 2 hits and 2 RBI a piece for the Padres, all singles. Australian Corey Adamson whom we signed last year added an RBI double. Kurt Wideman from Fallbrook had 2 singles and Alia, Rymer Liriano, and Jonathan Galvez scored 2 runs each.

Sucks about Inman
I wish I knew what’s going on with him – he might just need to move to the bullpen
So that Linebrink trade’s looking pretty blah right about now – Thatcher doesn’t have many fans, Garrison’s been out for the year and the supposed cornerstone in Inman has been sucking.

You're doing fine work, my friend.
It looks a lot better today; a little bold goes a long way.

Great job.
Much better.
I think that it shows a lot that Scribner routinely pitches more than one inning.

Funny
I saw the box scores from 7/21 before I saw this. LOL.

I would've stolen your job for a day
And posted the results from yesterday, but most of them lost so I thought it was too depressing.

Not all new is good news
Jonathan Galvez, won of our top (really) young prospects made his 13th (!) error the the AZL Padres games. That is way too many, somebody get a coach to work with that kid. Fortunately, he’s only 18 years old. If he was American, Scott Boras would still be ignoring calls from the team that drafted him.

Inman is only 22
and this is his first exposure to AAA ..
that is way, way, way to early to give up him.
