Latos Makes Debut (Strikezone Plot)
I thought this was interesting. Since I was at the game, I didn't get to follow Latos' pitches with PitchF/X, but I felt as if the umpire was fooled a few times because it looked like he wasn't getting the same strike zone as Jason Marquis. This plot shows 7 "balls" in the strike zone. I think the umpire needed a scouting report on how hard Latos threw and maybe some video to help with his deceptive delivery, because Blue was off his game.

Hmm
Now that this is on the front page I feel like the plot image should be there instead of the link. But, the fanshot won’t let me embed an image. Next best thing for those that don’t follow links:

It's a little ambiguous as to what that means
2/3 of the Rockies starting lineup batted left handed, so it could mean a lot of up-and-away. But, then again, maybe he was throwing there more for the other 1/3 of their lineup.

Wait a second
is this facing home plate from the mound, or from the catcher’s view?

I've never seen one from the pitcher's view.

Nice job Wonko!
Great find. It doesn’t surprise me that the umpire would squeeze the rookie while giving the vet a nice big strike zone.

I don't think the ump did it on purpose
I think he was genuinely fooled.
