Expect to see starting pitcher Mat Latos (5-1, 1.91 ERA for Double-A San Antonio) before the season is over, although the Padres will carefully monitor his pitches. Towers would like to take a look at reliever Evan Scribner (6-2, 14 saves, 2.85 ERA in 36 games with San Antonio).

I won't lie.
I’m really excited to see Scribner. He’s got the makings of a great reliever.

I'd buy a ticket to see Latos pitch.
Maybe even a real expensive one.
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔

Anyone know what they'll do with Giles?
The outfield got crowded quick, and if Veneable’s last game is any indication of what he’s capable of I don’t think we’ll see much more of Gilly once he’s healthy. Would the Padres cut him loose and eat the remaining chunk of his contract, or does he become a high paid bench player? On a similar note, what happens to Floyd when he’s eligible to come off the 60-Day?
TBD

I think that was his point. It’s cool, man, I don’t think anyone noticed.

I just don't want Latos/Scribner
to be ruined by early call ups or whatnot. I’d be happy to wait to see them in 2010 if it meant they had long successful careers here

I understand
and I agree more with Latos than with Scribner. With A relief pitcher, it’s a lot easier to bring them along slowly and control their experience than with starters. He can get introduced late in games that we’re either winning big time in, or way behind in, so there’s no pressure. We can also control the batters he faces, for example Buddy can put him out there only against righties, or mostly righties, to make it easier.
He’s got a tough constitution though. I think he’ll do well.
