Chad Huffman Wins AAA Home Run Derby
I just got back from the AAA Home Run Derby up here in Portland and Chad Huffman beat out Shelley Duncan (Yankees AAA) 5-1 in the final. Apparently he was both a late add to the All-star team & a late add to the home run derby, since Mike Ekstrom was originally slated to make the team but was called up recently so Huffman took his place & I forget who was picked to be in the derby but dropped out before Huffman took his place. Justin Huber was also in it but failed to make it past the first round. I will be going to the game on Wednesday as well so I will be more in depth later with pictures.

Huffman replaced John Bowker
Who was called up by the Giants before the All Star Break.
I believe Ekstrom was replaced by Scott Patterson (also from the Beavers) on the PCL roster.
Here a link to the article talking about the contest. Here’s a snippet:
In the end, Huffman seemed happiest about the beautiful trophy, sculpted from walnut and oak by local artist Toby Johnson.
“Very talented,” Huffman said. “I think he did it with a chainsaw too.”
Huffman demonstrated quite a bit of talent himself. He did it with a bat.
Memo to baseball managers: You manufacture runs by NOT making outs, not by making them on purpose.

It would have been nice if Huffman had to hit more than just 2 dingers to win it.
Thanks Shelley Duncan for making it a competition!
(in Duncan’s defense I think he got robbed of a homer in his fifth and final out. Looked fair to me and everyone else, but was called foul)
