Open Thread, 7/1: Padres vs Astros

Houston Astros at San Diego Padres, Jul 1, 2009 7:05 PM PDT

You remember how in Star Trek: The Next Generation, you could ask the computer for food and it would put molecules together and create the food you asked for? I'd totally be down with that to create magical ballpark foods that people haven't thought of.

You could ask for all kinds of great things and taste them and determine if people would eat the stuff at a ballpark. Like jbox's churro dogs or my taco hot dog combinations or what not. I guess only one person could have that machine or else nobody would pay for the food once you made it. I need to rethink my stratergeries....

GO PADRES!!!

How many runs does Silva give up in the first two innings?

I’m afraid this will be his curtain call with the Padres.

by Padres in VA on Jul 1, 2009 6:31 PM PDT reply actions

None.

He won’t even give up a hit…we’ll all start to relax a little bit and then the wheels will just come flying off.

I fully expect double-digit scoring from the Astros tonight.

No way.

We’ll score eight runs and win. My lucky shirt says so.

Isn't it the second baseman's job to back up and the ss covers 2nd? that's what happens with

no one on base, but I don’t know when there are multiple runners on. That’s a long way for Venable to get on such a quickly thrown ball.

buddy leaves pitchers in the game too long

You would think a former pitcher would know better, have better instincts for when a pitcher is finished. Sometimes, he is the last person in the ballpark to realize when a pitcher is done.

He lets pitchers “work through their problems” or “finish the inning,” which screws the rest of the team.

by brewer090 on Jul 1, 2009 8:14 PM PDT reply actions

Well he was the victim of bad defense, I think he is much better than I expected

that error is major costly right now and those 3 extra runs are not his fault.

by kdukat on Jul 1, 2009 8:19 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, only 3 runs but...

The second time around they were seeing his pitches. It was only a matter of time. Black did the right thing…this time around.

by Padres in VA on Jul 1, 2009 8:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, I agree completely plus he probably could get rattled by that bad defense too

I am not a Silva fan by any means, I just felt a tad bad for him tonight. And I don’t know that we have any other options right now for the rotation spot until CY comes back.

I just don't get it. If Kouz had made that error, you guys would be crucifying him

left and right and talking s*** up and down. Everyone is allowed to make mistakes, but why is it not okay to think that someone that plays a routine play so poorly needs to make up for it with the bat? It’s like it’s okay for him to do that because he’s young or new, etc. But if he is going to be a major league 3rd baseman for any team, much less a team I watch every night, he needs to make that play. That’s my point. And in all likelihood, he’s going to be the 3rd baseman because Kouz has trade rumors about him everywhere right now, especially with the Mariners. I want them both to stay actually but it appears unlikely.

Other than the people I came with. Of course the majority of people in the world are not considered to be intelligent and the ballpark is a place that people like to dumb themselves down with alcohol, so I’m willing to bet that has something to do with it.
