Olney says that the Padres will probably hold on to Adrian this summer.  They don't want to allienate their fans more than they already have.  I beg to differ.  The Pads will get a better deal for Adrian if they trade him in the winter.  If they did trade him now the Red Sox would be interested.  That would be great if Boston would be nice enough to take him off our hands.

What do you think?

Jake Peavy and Adrian Gonzalez to Boston for David Ortiz.

no

DODGERS, RED SOX, YANKEES, BRONCOS, PATRIOTS and RAIDERS all suck. Especially the Dodgers.

idk

Ortiz is having a really good year and he plays a mean defense.

I don't think he should be traded

Because he brings more to the table than just being a really good player

A)he’s a hometown guy
B)he has ties to Mexico

Those 2 things right there are cause for more people to come to the ballpark. Look at it from a business side on this one. Moorad was talking about hitting up the Mexican fans and trying to get more of them to come to the ballpark….what better way to do it than have a guy with ties to Mexico? Do you think it was coincidence that when Moores and Lucchino first took over this team that Fernando Valenzuela was signed? Lucchino is a marketing genius and I would guess about 80% of that signing was trying to draw some Mexican fans and about 20% trying to help the team. Then they had the first MLB game in Mexico in ’99 while Lucchino was here still & if I recall I believe there was even a Padre store in Mexico at the time where you could buy Padres merch & tickets to games. Then on the flip side Adrian also has ties to San Diego as well and every baseball fan knows that there is always some fandom loyalty to the HOMETOWN guys. Like I said these are on top of how great of a player Adrian is & how young he still is and to top off things he is a very standup guy. No pictures of him gallivanting with other women at bars, no getting arrested & no spouting off to the media….like some other players out there.

Oh also

I gave up on voting years ago. It’s pointless really. The Brewers and Cardinals had all of their players in the top 5 last week (Khalil was 5th in voting despite hitting .200 with only 2 homers & 14 rbis but has since been passed up by Miguel Tejada in voting recently). Jason Kendall & Yadier Molina are the top vote getters for catchers….Really? A .259 3 homer Molina & a .207 0 homer Kendall are deserving of an all-star nod? Really?

All good points

I think the games in Mexico stretch back even further. Wasn’t it in Monterey in 1996 when Cammy ate those steriods uppers Snickers?

by 'Eaters on Jun 5, 2009 11:09 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeah

they played a series in 1996 & also opened the season there in 1999 as well.

There is still a Padres store in Tijuana (expensive!)

At the mall in Zona Rio… you can also see current films th the theater there for about four bucks and across the street it’s like a Latin MTV dance party at the Plaza Del Zapato on Friday and Saturday nights.

where do I go

to get hanged, drawn, and quartered by the former police commissioner for buying my drugs from the wrong cartel?

DODGERS, RED SOX, YANKEES, BRONCOS, PATRIOTS and RAIDERS all suck. Especially the Dodgers.

Just an FYI

Buying drugs from any cartel in any country is probably a bad idea.

Headley

Kouz isn’t exactly hitting the cover off the ball either…wouldn’t mind seeing Headley getting some starts at 3B.

2 Points

1. Trading A-Gon wouldn’t drop payroll by a lot, only like 4.5 million
2. I think we would get a lot more trading right at the deadline
-If Ortiz isn’t hitting, they will want a bat to replace him
-The winter is when they are building for next year, not making a push for the playoffs

WFT?

I’m not trying to blame blogs, but this whole trade Adrian Gonzalez seems like a total (traditional) media fabrication (Olney) and non-story. I don’t think anyone has cited a source, especially with the Padres, that trading Adrian is on the table. "There has been a lot of buzz, Olney says.

Granted, no player is untouchable. If the Red Sox want to trade their top five players for him, then maybe …

But Adrian is cheap, in his prime, from San Diego and of Mexican descent.

Even if the Padres can tell the future and knew they would finish under .500 this year and next, they still shouldn’t trade him. His contract is up in after 2010, but I bet they can renew him for cheap, relatively cheap. When he signed his current deal, he said he doesn’t really care about money. I know everyone says that, but his contract backed that up.

also

Olney said Adrian has spent a “career” being underrated. That may be technically correct, but 3 years and two months isn’t excatly a career — the way that most people think of it.

He did make the All-Star team and won a Gold Glove award last season while playing for a terrible team in an overlooked market.
