Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

What Teams Are Going To Buy From Us?

This is a rebuilding year for the Padres. A farm system weakened by years of bad drafts. The whole organization is weak and in need of better players at all levels. Remeber these are ballpark guestimates.

Giants - I know people are probably thinking Giants? Well they are in need of a hitter and are willing to give up either Matt Cain or some prospects. I was thinking that they might want Kevin Kouzmanoff to fill in third or play some games at first. He might get us 1-3 okay-good prospects. But I doubt that the Padres would trade the Giants Kouz. This would also be a bad trade considering that the Giants are rebuilding too.

Angels - They have a stacked team. They are a few games behind the Rangers and might want to trade for a veteran to give them an extra push for the playoffs. When I looked at their roster, I saw that the bullpen needed a proven arm. I was thinking that maybe we could deal them Heath Bell for 2-5 okay or good prospects.

Dodgers - I know people are probably wondering what I am thinking. The Dodgers are one of those big market teams where they can trade away a few good guys without damaging their farm system. Someone on this website said Kershaw for Peavy, no way. This would cheat the Padres of so many prospects, and not to mention, he might not waive his no-trade clause. I think that the Dodgers might want Peavy for 2-7 good prospects, with Kershaw the centerpiece of the deal. Peavy might want to waive his no-trade clause if a deal was to happen, because his family wouldn't have to move hundreds of miles away, they would be a plane ride away. Also, the Dodgers need another good arm in their bullpen, so maybe a Heath Bell, Jake Peavy deal would get the Padres 5-12 good prospects, once again with Kershaw the centerpiece of the deal.

Brewers - I have read over at Brew Crew Ball, that Doug Melvin is not entertaining deals for Peavy, but he didn't say anything about any other Padres player. I was thinking they might want to improve over Craig Counsell at second, and David Eckstein might be a okay improvement. We could get 1-2 okay/sub-par prospects for a deal that would send Eckstein to the Brewers. Also, they might want to improve over Bill Hall at third. I was thinking that Kevin Kouzmanoff could go to the Brewers for 1-3 okay/good prospects. How Doug Melvin said he wasn't entertaining deals for Peavy, maybe we could deal them Chris Young(I don't want him to be dealt) for 1-4 good prospects. I hope this deal won't happen, but the Brewers need a pitcher and we need to bolster our farm, so any deal is possible.

Cardinals - They have been struck with injuries this season, and still are managing to keep in contention. They need a third baseman and shortstop. I don't think Troy Glaus will be very productive when he gets back from his injury, and neither do the people over on the Cardinals blog. I was thinking maybe 1-3 good/okay prospects for Kevin Kouzmanoff. If Luis Rodriguez gets better and the Cardinals are desperate for shortstop help, maybe we could trade them Luis Rodriguez for 1-2 okay/sub-par prospects. Also, David Eckstein might want to reunite with his Cardinals, and we could get 1-2 sub-par prospects for him.

Red Sox - They want to get a lefthanded bat in for David Ortiz. I really don't want us to deal Adrian Gonzalez, but if it gets us a dozen prospects, the Padres might deal him. I'm thinking(god forbid this ever happens) that we could get 5-12 good prospects for Adrian Gonzalez. Maybe we could deal Brian Giles to them, but the guys at Over The Monster said that the Red Sox would never want this to happen, but it could. I see maybe 1 sub-par prospect for Brian Giles if we're lucky. Cliff Floyd might be a okay pickup for the Red Sox if they want a okay lefthanded bat off the bench. I think maybe 1 okay/sub-par prospect for Cliff Floyd.

So what teams do you think will come to us for veterans to help them make a playoff push? Any critiquing? The Padres are going to deal alot of players this year to restock their weak farm system. Any other players that you think we will deal please leave as a comment. Thanks.

The only player

that would be moved in return for something would be Eckstein because he’s the only one they wouldn’t outright release.

Bell is too cheap to move.
Adrian is not moving.
Giles has full no-trade and made it clear he’s not going anywhere last season.
Everyone else is either a candidate for release or not worth a meaningful prospect, maybe a trash middle reliever at best.

Short answer: The team who is willing to overpay the most.

We suck for a reason...

Besides maybe Bell, Hairston and Peavy, we dont have much to offer:

Giles wouldnt play everyday where ever we trade him, so why would he want to go?
Kouzmanoff has sucked, not even Brian Sabeans gonna take a look at him.
Axion’s right, Adrian MUST not be moved.
LRod is a backup infielder at best, no one trades “prospects” for backup infielder
Peavy wont bring Kershaw nor 12 prospects, didnt you see the Sox’s offer?
Once Hairston’s healthy, i think he could bring something decent…. arent the white sox looking for a CF?

I want some movement! release kouz, headley at third, cut giles playing time, macias and venable playing, TG Jr’s a fourth outfielder….. Why wait till the seasons over to say “Oh look, 100 losses, maybe our guys sucked or something”.

A few things

1. Giles would want to go because otherwise he’d be released
2. Kouzmanoff isn’t a good fit for this patient system but when he can just be himself he is pretty good. He’s worth a decent player or two
3. L-Rod/Mjuica/Meredith could be moved for some light prospects
4. Hairston should be our new RF/Gwynn CF/Blanks LF

I don't think any team would give up any 12 prospects for any 1 player

I wish my Angels would trade for a guy like Bell

But i don’t see that happening. Unfortunately we have Fuentesaurus closing games and I don’t think a guy like Bell deserves to be setting up.

I don’t think the Angels can match-up with the Pads.

hmmm

Maybe you could make a dela though, like Heath Bell for Brandon Wood, Nick Adenhart, and Trevor Reckling. This is a very random trade with the players names.

FYI

Nick Adenhart is the guy that was in the horrible car accident in April.

??? Ay Ay Ay

some of these wants, or ideals are down right ridiculous, 12 spects for AGON wow, never happen for any player in this day and age, but the post that shows the lack of knowledge of some posters is the hmmm one
Lets deal Heath Bell for Brandon Wood ( still upside, big power, k;s a ton) , Reckling ( very very good spect on par with walden in that system of late) and Adenhart ( UMM HE IS NO LONGER ALIVE BUDDY ) so please get your act together when making a random deal , etc as to post him in the deal is borderline offensive and downright ignorant
