Problem with this

So what happens with Headley? Where does he play?

by TheAxManCometh on Jun 19, 2009 10:03 AM PDT reply actions

Headley

I think the best thing for him in the long run is to go down to AAA and get his confidence back. He mashed at every level, and I think he will do well. But 15 games of him in AAA isn’t the worse thing that can happen.

Unless they bench giles and put Headley in RF, Blanks in LF Gwynn has earned CF.

That only works until Hairston gets off the DL

Also they are going to have to do something with Venable.

My guess is that they either have a deal worked out to send Kouz to StL or they are going to option Headley back to AAA and have him play 3B there until they can move Kouz. Either way I think this spells then end for Headley in LF.

As others have said room will have to be made for Harriston when he comes back and has room already been made for Cabrerras return?

Oh ya

Had forgotten about him. All of these guys start to run together into a big amorphous glob of suck.

Ha

Plenty of fat to trim with Wilson and Burke. Has Burke even been dressing out?

Agreed

But that still begs the question what happens to Headley

I assume that by monday the OF will be

LF: Blanks
CF: Gwynn
RF: Hairston
Backups: Venable/Floyd (though I think that Macias would be better then Floyd).

So where’s headley? Maybe its to move back to AAA and go to 3B and move Kouz I agree. But I don’t know who would trade for Kouz or what htey’d want. So its just a question mark

Interesting for Blanks

to get the call now but a Blanks, Gwynn, Hairston outfield is WAY different from SD outfielders of the past. I guess they want offense over everything else because the runs have been scarce.

I’m still amazed how far Giles has fallen off. Would Detroit give us Willis for Giles and Venable?

Why would it be that different?

Hairston and Gwynn can hold their own defensively. Hairston still deserves the chance to play full time. Blanks yeah is a sluggard but he’s an offensive powerhouse. As for Venable, i’m not sure what to do with him. I’d like to put him in RF but there’s no place to put him.

And I’d trade Giles for Willis only if they ship in a ton of money to pay for Willis

The A's might be interested in Kouz

Since they have the great Nomar Garciaparra playing there right now. St. Louis is a possibility as well but I think they’ll be a little more hesitant about trading for a Padres infielder after the whole Khalil thing.

Either way, he’s certainly raised his trade value the last few weeks so now might be the time to pull the trigger.

Maybe we can trade him for Josh Barfield.

Giles Trade

I see us trading Giles for someone else problem with money being shipped to make it even. Similar to Nevin for Park a few years back.

So my guess is a high priced under performing pitcher..Willis, Penny come to mind.

Willis is due $12 Mil next year

so the Tigers would have to pick up the majority of it.

Also I don’t see Giles waiving his no trade to move to Detroit.

I think the Sox could get more for Penny.

by Grey Suit on Jun 19, 2009 11:18 AM PDT up reply actions

Penny

was a stretch. I think he is worth more also. I just think its a slight possibility b/c GM’s allways to seem to have it for some random guy. Theo has always been in love with Giles, so I would give it a 5% chance of it happening.

Giles

I also think Giles will be more willing to waive his no trade clause out of pride. The front office can go “Look you can either be traded and given some AB for the remainder of the year to increase your value for next year, Or you can face the embarrassement of being released”

A part of me still thinks Giles will rebound…but his swing looks so weak right now.

Remember

Giles’ salary increases by $2 million when he gets traded.

Also he has to agree to it

and going by what he said last year when he denied the trade to Boston, he’s not leaving if he can help it.

Unless you believe Ron Mexico's scenario

Which makes sense except for the $2 million elephant in the room.

I think he could rebound

sort of how Edmonds did last year. Not a Delgado type rebound, but still solid improvement.

But that doesnt mean I think we should hold on to him.
In the big picture, even if he rebounds it is time to let him go.
