Open Thread, 6/17: Padres vs Mariners

Seattle Mariners at San Diego Padres, Jun 17, 2009 7:05 PM PDT

The Padres continue their quest for the fabled consecutive innings without scoring a run streak. I believe they can do it. I believe with all my heart.

Another thing that I believe is that these so called younger players that Kevin Towers is alluding to should just go ahead and be given ABs. Brian Giles is not Tony Gwynn. When we sucked back at the turn of the century, there was still some benefit to continue starting our aging right fielder. Now, there is no such benefit. I want to see other people.

Another thing I believe is that Ichiro Suzuki is super likable. Are there people who don't like Ichiro? Is there any sort of backlash against him? I know jbox sometimes says he doesn't like him, but I think that's cause Jonny Dub likes Ichiro too much, which makes jbox jealous.

Don't forget about your haiku.

our team can not score
our pitchers are unhealthy
but yet we will win

I loathe Ichiro
because it says “Ichiro”
in the damn boxscore

DODGERS, RED SOX, YANKEES, BRONCOS, PATRIOTS and RAIDERS all suck. Especially the Dodgers.

Gaudin

has definitely done a better job throwing strikes. He’s mostly eliminated his walk problems from earlier this season. Now though, he’s got a problem throwing too many juicy pitches to hit.

Happy medium Chad, happy medium!!

Everth Cabrera double and Kyle Blanks single plates a run in the first for Portland

BLaw has 2 IP 2Ks one hit and one unearned run caused by a Kyle Blanks fielding error.

There's a reason

why I wouldn’t want him in left field. He may cause as many runs as he drives in.

by Zach (maestro876) on Jun 17, 2009 7:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Nathan Culp goes 7 IP with only 2 hits and 0 ERs allowed

Eric Sogard (4 rbi) and Lance Zawadski have 3 hits a piece pacing the Missions to a 6-1 win.

I love Sogard.

I’m convinced he’ll be our next 2B over Antonelli.

by Zach (maestro876) on Jun 17, 2009 7:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Zawadski (SS) has already moved up a level this season

been raking at every level so far with power.

Fire Bud Black!

by Sam (sdsuaztec4) on Jun 17, 2009 7:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Well I guess we'll see how he does.

It’s possible that both of them work out. It’s not like our SS position is any less up in the air than 2B.

by Zach (maestro876) on Jun 17, 2009 7:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Eric

has been having a good amount of success as well, high average and OBP, though not as much power. Sogard has been an all-star with Lake Elsinore and now with San Antonio.

It’s nice to actually have a lot of talent in the system. Too bad none of it is close than a year away.

by Zach (maestro876) on Jun 17, 2009 7:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Corey Kluber

has 13 Ks for the Storm over 6 IP so far.

Our batting average with bases loaded is so low

opposing pitchers should just walk the bases loaded so they can set up double plays.
