"I'M CRAAAAAAZY!!!!" (AP Photo/Lenny Ignelzi)

Here's a Heath Bell quote for you from Canepa's latest:

"It can happen," he said. "I can get 40-to-50 save chances this year. These guys can do it. Mark my words, at the end of the season, I don't know if we'll win it outright, but we're going to be in the hunt."

I'm going to say what Nick Canepa implied, but didn't say outright. Heath Bell is crazy. That's OK. At least he's interesting. The problem is that he's also a guy that we're not going to get to see every night.

In other news, off days are great because the boys can sleep in and have pleasant dreams about not making baserunning mistakes and not just swinging and grounding out at first pitches.

Would you prefer him to say?

“Yeah we’re screwed, I doubt I’ll hit 30 saves. I wish I could go to some place where i can actually get saves with a team that can actually hit and pitch”

?

I wouldn't be surprised to see him surpass 30 saves.

Last year in a 99-loss season, Trevor was 30-34 in save opportunities. Bell should get at least that many tries.

A fully sane person

Would just avoid the question and not give either answer. Or, if I interpret what he’s responding to correctly, “I root for these guys everyday. I know they are good guys, they’re working hard and they can help us win. I want them to get me out there 40-50 times and help them win some games. If we can do that, then we’re in the hunt and it’s a good season.” Lots of conditionals, praise your teammates, show confidence in your ability and make it sound like you still have hope. Leave out the bold prediction and anything that could be interpreted as delusional.

Memo to baseball managers: You manufacture runs by NOT making outs, not by making them on purpose.

Twice

I switch to watching something else this weekend during the game. Once it was to watch on old Iron Chef’s episode, the other was to order the burning fireplace on Cox On demand.

That was horrid baseball.

"Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"

I would like to buy some of the cookies Heath has been eating.

I’m pretty sure they’re from a company in Northern California.

I think Nick Canepa might be crazy

for interviewing our closer on the heels of being swept.

He's not crazy...he's just awful.

The U-T’s upper management is crazy for making the decision to keep Canepa and let Tom Krasovic go.
