But obviously, getting Gwynn on the Padres is a bonus. Gwynn doesn’t stand out from a dozen other prospects with similar resumes except for his name.

Not that I think it’s a bad thing or that it’s a bad trade. Just that it being Tony Gwynn’s son obviously had something to do with it.

claimed Gwynn off waivers and traded Gerut for someone else.

had to many outfielders at the time Gwynn was passed through waivers. Gerut, Hairston, Giles, Headley & Macias were on the opening day roster & being that Gwynn is out of Minor League options he would have had to been on the club. KT was more inclined to pick up relievers at the time.
