PADRES AGREE TO TRADE JAKE PEAVY. SAN DIEGO REDNECKS WEEP.
And one last sip for my homies...
It looks like it's close. The Padres have apparently agreed to a deal with the White Sox to deal Jake Peavy for some dudes who probably won't win a Cy Young award.
OMG WTF.
Actually, we all figured this was going to happen. It was the final piece before we could really move on. All we have to do now is wait on Jake to approve or veto the trade. How much does Jake love San Diego's weather, current mini winning streak, and underage girls? Time will tell.
When I read this, I was surprised. And then I realized that I wasn't really surprised, before becoming surprised at my original surprisal.
More as tit it comes. [that was a freudian slip]
Here's how I'm feeling today, partly because of this trade, but mostly because I really enjoyed the FotC show last night:

Two names heard in the trade
Two players believed to be in deal are left-handers Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda, a first-round Draft pick in 2007 who would be the kind of front-line starter the Padres would desire.
Richard, 25, has no record and a 4.33 ERA in 14 appearances for the Sox this season, including two starts. Poreda, 22, is 3-4 with a 2.53 ERA in eight starts for Double-A Birmingham. He has allowed just 32 hits and struck out 50 in 46 1/3 innings.
Oh I am NOT feeling good about this
Scott & BR
said that they have already started taking down the Peavy posters and jerseys in the studio. Bad sign.
GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I posted a more articulate, considered response elsewhere. But I’ve decided to rescind it in favor of general screaming.
More as tit comes.
Which Tit would that be? Axelrod, Peavy, Guillen?
“Shut your festering gob, you tit! Your type really makes me puke you vacuous, toffy-nosed, malodorous pervert!”
"2009 Padres.....Yeah, we're still here.
From Chicago
“The deal supposedly would be Peavy for Aaron Poreda, Clayton Richard, either Chris Getz or Alexi Ramirez and a 4th player that has been rumored to be anyone from Jermaine Dye, Jordan Danks or Tyler Flowers.”
OK
IF we get Ramirez, Flowers, Poreda and Richard, that might be acceptable. A good young catcher (we don’t have any), a speedy Cuban jack of all trades (SS/2B/CF) and two pitchers who are about to get into the majors?\
That’s not bad
That deal is hard to believe....
Because the Sox are taking salary, too.
These rumors are going to make me start drinking.
Great, an almost unwatchable team..
just got less watchable. Peavy was the first player I liked watching when I moved here in 2002 and he probably was the reason I became a Pads fan. (the other reason being that I like to be associated with underachievement). Reports have been floating around the radio for 7 days now that Giles will be released when the team cools down again. What will I do with all my outdated jerseys?

they may be donated to next year's fan fest garage sale.

I'll take 'em!
I have a seam ripper and have gone that route before with a cheap Ruben Rivera authentic I got on ebay; I cut out new numbers and letters and turned it into a Peavy jersey (I didn’t always hate him!).

Needed to happen
Provided the team gets a front-line starter and two or three other above replacement level players. His contract explodes in future years and the team is devoid of talent. Team needs to start rebuilding and couldn’t just ride two talented players. (Peavy and Gonzo)

Poreda and Richard
according to Baseball America they are the #2-3 overall prospects and the top two pitching prospects. Both are LHPs, both are close to jumping into the majors, Poreda has supposedly the best fastball in their system and is seen as a #2. Richard is more at the back of the rotation
I seriously hope Towers just keeps telling him "It's Chicago" and Jake mistakenly thinks its the Cubs

yeah, more pitching.
or is it less pitching with Jake leaving? And don’t get any major league bats in the deal because 2-1 games are really exciting every single night. That’s why Major League Soccer is doing so well in the U.S.
yes, I am getting bitter in my old age.

Looks like
I saw Peavy’s last start as a Padre last Sunday. So far I am less than impressed with the names mentioned. Beckham would be nice. Alexi had a great year last year but has been horrible this year and has even been benched for sucking so bad. Actually, maybe he will fit in perfect here.

this will spoil
Friday night’s Zambrano v. Peavy matchup. :(
DODGERS, RED SOX, YANKEES, BRONCOS, PATRIOTS and RAIDERS all suck. Especially the Dodgers.

What was I just saying?
Oh, right….GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I want some proven MLB talent in this deal. I don’t want just 4 ‘cross your fingers’ prospects. It’s a deep farm system that matters, the individuals wash out or get injured all the time…You might be getting the equivalent of Grady Sizemore, Cliff Lee….you might be getting a package that turns out to be the equivalent of Sean Burroughs, Matt Bush.
Reportedly, it'll be four pitchers for Peavy
With Poreda and Richard as the cornerstones. No information about who else still is in the deal. I’ve heard it might be RHP Dexter Carter
So, what's your M.O. and signature means of disposal?

Beckham
Infielder Gordon Beckham cannot be traded because his one-year anniversay as a professional player isn’t until August.
What if we made him a PTBNL?
sneaky…
To be choosen from a list of one player(s)
- Gordon Beckham
Although Gammonds claims Beckham is not involved
So four pitching prospects?
Can Padres drop below the 10K attendance mark this season?

Ideally, Becky and John Moores can get this year's team down to 0 players.
That way they have maximum personnel and payroll flexibility.
