Peavy to Chicago??

I wasn't expecting this AT ALL when I signed onto SOSD tonight....

Apparently, there's an offer from the White Sox that Towers (and Peavy) are mulling over.  No players are mentioned, and I couldn't find anything anywhere else on the usual suspects' websites (ESPN, FOX, MLBTR).  I guess we'll just have to wait to see if anything comes of this latest rumor.

This is the perfect thing

To completely destroy this streak / homestand

But hey, i guess they have to think long term.

I would fully support this

if they’d trade us Ozzie’s bench coach for Peavy… we’ll even throw in a Bud Black to be named later.

From what I saw

We were getting two lefties that have horrible K Ratios and two PTBNL.

I’m hoping Jake turns the deal down or sits on his hands until KT can leverage a better deal.

I donb't believe that for a second.

The only thing I can find that mentions even ONE name is in the Chicago Daily Herald.

The latest rumor, seemingly spread late Wednesday night, has Peavy coming to the Sox in a trade from the Padres for Aaron Poreda and other top prospects.

Aaron Poreda.

In 2008, Poreda’s first and only full season in the minor leagues, he shuffled between high-A ball and AA Birmingham. At Winston-Salem, Poreda pitched 73.1 innings and amassed a 3.31 ERA and a 5-5 record. His K rate dropped to only 5.6 per 9 innings and his WHIP rose to a still solid 1.16. In AA Birmingham, Poreda pitched 87.2 innings, had an ERA of 2.98, a K/9 rate of 7.4, and a WHIP of 1.17.

So for his brief minor league career thus far, Aaron Poreda is 12-9 with a 2.69 ERA in 207.1 innings, with a K/9 rate of 7.2 and a WHIP of 1.10. All very good numbers, and certainly predictors of future success.

My favorite part of the article from Kras:

“One of Peavy’s teammates said he believes Peavy respects the Sox’s aggressiveness in pushing for him but may have reservations about pitching for Ozzie Guillen, the White Sox’s volatile manager.”

He’s scared of playing for Guillen? Seriously?

Also, the Peavy trade will most-likely be the biggest of the 2009 season – notice it wasn’t Buster Olney, or Ken Rosnethal, or any of those other guys that broke this story…it was Tom Krasovic. The guy busts his ass, has all the right sources and is well-respected. In other words, YOU SUCK UNION-TRIBUNE. I sincerely hope Kras gets a national gig for twice the money.

we're supposed to get cards?

shit.

DODGERS, RED SOX, YANKEES, BRONCOS, PATRIOTS and RAIDERS all suck. Especially the Dodgers.

Is this really happening??

MLB trade rumors are making it sound like a done deal, and it’s just up to Peavy.

Say no, Jake.

I've gone back and forth for a long, long time about Peavy leaving....

On the one hand, the Padres have positions to fill. Notably the rotation, the bullpen, 2B, shortstop, RF (next year)….there aren’t enough prospects in the pipeline to take over many, or really any, of these positions. Antonelli for 2B maybe….And the ‘Kyle Blanks in the OF’ experiment (can he play Right?). Realistically, they won’t—and shouldn’t—spend the money in free agency to fill all of these spots with decent guys (it’s stupid for the Padres to get into bidding wars. They won’t win.)

So for the team to improve, it seems like you need to get a huge haul for Peavy and shed his salary to boot.

But then when you look, historically, at other pitchers of his caliber who have been traded for prospects…..it’s not a rosy picture, really. Sure, there are examples of good trades (Bartolo Colon for Sizemore, Cliff Lee and more, I think it was) but there are a lot more counter-examples of ‘top prospects’ you never heard from again for a proven, and rare, major leaguer.

You keep Peavy. Period. He and Adrian are what you build around. You have to hope for some improvement and good luck in our own farm system (drafts have been better, lately), some maturing and continued production from Headley, and whatever shrewd free agent pickups we can afford. Gerut/Hairston—even with Gerut slumping—-have quietly made a stellar CF platoon. You hope for more of that, with Peavy/Adrian as centerpieces.

I have a hard time hearing the 'prospects'..

in a Peavy trade. Yes a couple of them will have to be prospects, but you would think this big a trade would warrant some major league talent. Prospects appears to mean ‘minimum salaries’, which leaves us wondering why we would keep watching this team over the summer. It’s time to do one of those cryogenic experiments and come back in 4 years to see if the payroll has exceeded 40 million yet.
Put your clothes back on, this streaking party is over.

Bad time for Jake to leave

I just hired a cow for the milking contest at my son’s birthday party.
