Union Tribune lets go of Tom Krasovic

Noticed it in the Fanshots that the Union-Tribune has let Tom Krasovic go along with a bunch of other staff as part of some pretty significant layoffs. Here's hoping that he gets another gig soon and that it has something to do with covering baseball. Regardless of what some might think based on how we behave, we actually do admire our local Padres beat reporters. San Diegans have been lucky in that respect. We've seen what passes for beat reporting in other cities and let me tell you... scaaaary.

Good luck, Tom.

For my money,

Tom Krasovic is among the top handful of sportswriters in America. He’s so thorough. He breaks news, studies his beat like a scholar and writes beautifully. Sitting down to one of his stories is like sitting down to a warm slice of apple pie. His metaphor. I’m sad to see him go. I want to say that he’ll have no problems finding another gig, but in this economy and the sorry stat of newspapers … well, good luck, Tom. And thank you for so many years of awesome writing.

Disappointing

This sucks. Never fun to see anyone lose a job, but it particularly sucks when a guy who was very good at his job is let go. The U-T will be even weaker without him. Best of luck to him.

Horrible decision by the U-T

Though i don’t live in San Diego, and only read the online version, Krasovic is much more talented than Tim Sullivan. They cut the wrong guy.

Good point. This looks worse when you look at the caliber of people they kept.

Word

Sullivan is so worthless. His style is self righteous and purposefully inaccessible. It’s like he consciously writes so that people don’t know what words he’s using or have to re-read his stuff multiple times just to get what he’s saying. And his over eloquence isn’t effective, it’s just annoying.

He should have been expandable. Especially considering this bit of tragic information:

Sullivan makes around $140 grand to Canepa’s $100,000. Get him out of here.

How do you know

how much these guys make? And why should it have been between Sullivan and Krasovic? Those two guys are the only two reasons I read the U-T. I love Sullivan’s intellectual style; it brings a whole new dimension to the games he writes about. I’ve never once had to re-read one of his columns to understand it. But so may of his columns make me think. To me, that’s what a good writer — any kind of writer — should do. If the paper’s new owners had asked me who to get rid of, I would’ve told them Canepa, Kevin Acee and Jay Pudner — three lazy fucks whose disdain for their jobs comes through in their stories. In fact, I haven’t seen a good Charger story in the U-T since T.J. Simers left the paper for the L.A. Times.

I agree

with getting rid of Canepa. Watch the round-table on-line that Posner, Acee, and Canepa do during the football season…..Canepa is a complete clown and his writing is so weak….one crappy metaphor after another. I enjoy Sullivan’s style. Too bad about Kras.

Terrible news.

Kras is damn good at what he does.

Ok I didn't catch that

I’ll feel like I’m reading stories from someone on death row.
