Well, that's one way to start a season. Dodgers 4, Padres 1.
I missed Opening Day because I was working up in Portland. I managed to catch one or two at bats and piece together what happened via the comments and from osmosis. Here's what I've learned:
- Jake Peavy still doesn't know how to pitch in a big game.
- Cliff Floyd is doing just about what everyone figured he'd do.
- Overall, our offense appears to be more of the same.
- Dodger Fan has decided to sympathize with us instead of ridicule us, which firmly kills what's left of any "rivalry".
Incidentally, just from the meager comments that I read through, here are my favorites. No asterisks for the first game of the season. We've still got our preseason legs on. Just wait till tomorrow when I'm able to comment also. I bring out the best in you all.

Finally here!

The "WalMart has all the same stuff award" comment of the night:
And that's it. Uninspired play inspires uninspired comments. Still, it's Opening Day and it's baseball so I'm proclaiming this game, the best game of the year so far. If I have to rank them, I'll say 4/6/2009 is #1. Interestingly enough, it was also the worst game of the year so far. That's because of the math involved. by TheAxeManCometh
Meet the 2009 padres
Damn similar to the 2008 padres, just cheaper
Also, I told you guys years ago that Matty V was a talent. Next guy to get called to big things... Darren Smith. You heard it here first.

Peavy didn't pitch all that badly
I mean 7 IP 4 ER isn’t great but it keeps you in the ballgame. We Kouz just couldn’t come through when we had opportunities to score.

4 runs at Petco
Might as well be 7 or 8. But, yeah, it’s not like he got rocked. They stuck out their bats a few times and got some bloopers. Kemp’s HR was a obviously more than lucky. And Jake And AGon didn’t do themselves any favors with the botched pickoff on Manny.

Big Mistake
Manny isn’t going to run. What was he thinking?

Better question concerning Peavy:
When does he think?

Welcome to P-Town Dex
Hope you brought some sunglasses. The sunny weather we’re having has people shedding layers… looking directly at extremely pale skin can cause severe retina damage.
Actually snow goggles work best

actually, i'm back again
Was just there yesterday and today. It was so sunny and warm. I was like, “Portland’s easy peasy”.
Look at him, he's magnificient.
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔

When the "enemy" sympathize with you
It doesn’t mean that the “rivalry” is killed. It’s worse – it means your club is killed (or lost or whatever you want to call it). It’s prbably the worst thing in sports
that blew
Bud Black, if nothing else, he's even keel.
Someone explain Eckstein's first inning bunt to me
Ok, so it’s ironic in light of my ‘productive out’ discussion with Wonko last week, but why bunt in the first inning. Gerut on second, no outs and Black has Eckstein bunt, why? He’s in scoring position already and, did I mention there were no outs? That was just giving an out away for no reason. But I guess that’s why I’m sitting in right field with the transients and Bud Black is a millionaire.

I think
That Eck did that on his own, thought he may be able to lay down a base hit bunt. Vets do that from time to time.

If Eck had his speed from 8 years ago
That bunt would have been a hit. I have to think he was trying for a single and was willing to settle for a sacrifice. “Sacrifice” bunts are always better when there is a chance that the bunter will beat the throw. It’s also good game strategy to make the defense think of the bunt as an option.

speaking of inexplicable bunts
how about Adrian trying to bunt? that was weird.

We need base runners
A hard bunt in fair play would have easily been a single. That shift is ridiculous considering that Adrian tries to go the other way with every pitch except when they pitch him inside. But, if you pitch him inside he’s going to try to yank it out of the park. Seems like a bad strategy on the Dodgers part. Adrian came real close to hitting 2 HRs, and the shift didn’t have anything to do with why he got out in any of his at bats.

I have been put on the front page
Pinch me, I feel sweeet!
And yeah I’m sorry but it looked like the 2008 Padres; put em on, never let em score. It’s the first game is the first game, but I was hoping we made some better progress. I’ll give it more time before going back into deep depression. Still opening days are real sweet
I feel you!
