Opening Day Links
- The 25 man roster is set:
Catchers: Nick Hundley, Henry Blanco.
Infielders: Adrian Gonzalez, Edgar Gonzalez, Everth Cabrera, David Eckstein, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Luis Rodriguez.
Outfielders: Scott Hairston, Chase Headley, Brian Giles, Jody Gerut, Cliff Floyd.
Pitchers: Hill, Gregerson, Moreno, Ed Mujica, Jake Peavy, Chris Young, Correia, Silva, Sanchez, Heath Bell, Cla Meredith, Eulogio De La Cruz.
- Eckstein promises to be scrappy but warns that April isn't his month.
- The Padres couldn't afford Manny Ramirez. Towers says "He's making almost half of what our entire payroll is. For us to be competitive it would have been very difficult."
- Adrian Gonzalez doesn't want to be a leader, he wants to speak very quietly. “If I am a soft-spoken leader, I'm going to be a soft-spoken leader,” he said. “I'm not going to go out of who I am.”
- Towers thinks it's too early to blame Bud Black. “We hired him for the long term. It's probably not fair to evaluate him now, not for another couple of years."
- Peavy will be gone if the Padres don't win in the first half. The train is refueling in the station. “I'm sure Jeff and I will sit down and decide what's best for his organization going forward if we're not in contention and if there's interest (in Peavy),” Towers said.
- Ducksnorts isn't going to try to give you hope this season. They are going to make you feel guilty about not having hope and then they are going use the empty seats at Petco to spread out.
- Gregerson made the club. Arturo Lopez was not so lucky.
- The Braves are going to retire Maddux's number 31 in July. The Padres don't seem to have high standards for retiring numbers, we should retire his Padres number before them.
- Did you remember to make your 2009 Padres Predictions?
- Corey Brock interviews Nick Hundley about his first Opening Day.
- XX Sports Radio interview with Heath Bell (MP3)
- XX Sports Radio interview with Bud Black (MP3)
- A Dodger Fan (ewww!) put a lot of work into this Peavy vs. Kuroda breakdown and the least you can do is read it.

When will it be too late?
C’mon Towers, do we seriously have to put up with another two years of lacking leadership before you realize that Black is part of the problem?
Oh my god
If he’s still managing in two years…I can’t even think about that. Two MONTHS seems like a long time.

25 man roster
No lefties on the staff, so how could anything go right?

Maddox did win a gold glove here...
does that qualify for a number retirement?

It would be ironic
If the Dodgers came out and did it before both
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Too Early?
Seriously? How many more oil tankers did Exxon let Hazelwood command? Kt, when you come home from a nice evening out with the wife, and the kids have shaved the cat, there’s peanut butter bubbling out of the DVD player, and the sitter is lounging on the couch reading US weekly, you find a new sitter.

LOL
I saw a lady chatting with her friend once, not paying attention to the game… and WHAP… foul ball hit her right in the arm. I know it’s mean but I had to laugh.
That will be me

Do you remember the game in 2007 when some dude sitting along the rail was on his cell and a foul ball came right at him? Adrian came charging for it and mauled the dude, just absolutely was all over him. The dude chatted on his phone the whole time! Whoever (I wanna say Quis) was in the booth even commented on it.
No
But you say Quis called it and I think that means I ignored the telecast.

I don't get the no lefty thing
Aren’t the stats pretty clear about the benefits of a lefty — or two — in the bullpen…all things being equal? Is this Harry’s choice, or KT?
Still, tied for first — that ain’t bad! Go Pads!
No lefty was good enough
That’s embarrassing to all of us.

First year in about five
that I have skipped. I am still thinking about grabbing a park in the park, though I will be at the game on Wednesday.
Winfield goes back to the wall. He hits his head on the wall -- and it rolls off! It's rolling all the way back to second base! This is a terrible thing for the Padres. - Jerry Coleman
I just realized today's game starts at 4:00pm!?!
Hello? a Monday home game at 4 in the frickin afternoon? I have to get my work done!
