Spring Training Game Thread: 4/3, Padres vs. Angels
Ah, back at Petco Park. Hopefully most of you will be at the game. I'll be watching on TV. Looks a little too damp and cold out there for me, bring your sweaters.
Heard a bit of Peavy talking on XX Sports Radio today, that guy has a career in the booth waiting for him when his baseball career is over. That dude can talk. He does a pretty good job putting a positive spin on things and every once in awhile I start believing that he really wants to play for the Padres. I'm very cautious though, I don't want to get my heart broken.
Go Pads!

For him, a terrible outing

But for a normal pitcher, a very solid outing

.83 whip?
weak. maybe he’s trying to convince the Nats not to draft him.

Why
does that new dork announcer keep looking at the camera? He looks like a more effeminate Dan Quayle. He has to find a more realistic fake laugh too.
Petco looks like a ghost town.
I wonder what the attendance is tonight? I assume tix were pretty cheap for tonight? No?

Escobar gets a 2-out RBI base knock.
There’s a preview of 2009 boys and girls.

Is anyone else finding the new mlb.com gameday sort of funny?

I just saw that
My guess is that those stats build up throughout the season, and thier AI isn’t trained yet, or the page is just totally buggy
But then again, they should be able to just use previous stats…
Funny yeah, but if they make it work, that would be cool

Silva didn't look like he was in any hurry to get to first
taking baby steps and taking his gloves off about five feet from the bag.
Silva
is really getting me excited! Is it too late to get season tickets?
They
keep on saying that Adrian and Edgar recommended Silva for this job and that’s why he got it. Didn’t Adrian also recommend Edgar?
Edgar isn't terrible.
Don’t know if I can say that about Silva though.

Ok, I'm back
I started watching “Escape from Chimp Eden” during the commercial and forgot about the game.
Psssh.
That’s nothing. I started watching my arm hair grow and forgot about the game.

At least
Petco looks nice. A few years ago the argument was “if we get a new stadium, we get more attendance and if we get more attendance, we get a bigger payroll.” That worked out well. Being a Padres fan is the same as being a Washington Generals fan. Except they have a bigger payroll.
Gregerson, 1-2-3, lotsa strikes, Gret job!
Looks like our bullpen is inexperienced, but has upside
Whereas our Rotation (behind PV & Young) has some experience, but not much upside
Which will perform better?
I see your glass is half empty
But yeah, it might go down like that

Bus....it's much quicker.
Our starters (3-5) are like getting hit by a bus…it’ll be over fast and we won’t even know what hit us.
"We're not going to be as bad as you think."
Cliff Floyd turned into Everth Cabrera
Nothing like last year when Tony Clark kept turning into Calix Crabbe
As Mud used to put it
What did Cabrera just do?
Are you allowed to do that in baseball?
I’m not familiar with that maneuver…
um
i believed thats what they call a steal… or something like that… although what its doing in Petco Park is beyond me….

Cabrera
I’m actually glad that he is on the team… at least we have someone who can run

I think its good for us
In a ‘rebuilding’ year, you can afford to use a roster spot with this guy, hope he matures, and who knows, maybe next year he’s starting.

A prayer:
Please God, teach Kyle Blanks how to play the outfield…by Monday.
Can you ask him
To teach Joe Thatcher to not give up runs while you’re at it?
by TJB on Apr 3, 2009 9:04 PM PDT up reply actions
Is there a whole team we can just ask for?
Maybe that will be easier…
by TJB on Apr 3, 2009 9:08 PM PDT up reply actions
Maybe a football stadium too?
Just make it float on the ocean. That would be the most convenient.

Correction
Is there a whole team franchise we can just ask for?

A revised prayer:
Please God, clone Kyle Blanks and teach him every position on the field as well as management, vending, security, and economic policy both domestic and foreign. May he mate with Jenny Cavnar and produce a decent replacement for Matt Vasgersian.

Gary Matthews, Jr.
His contract is bigger than our entire payroll…and what is he? Their 4th or 5th OF?

He wont be on the 25 man
I wonder if we could trade him for something…

Bats
I think we can make up for Browns bat from the minors… without much of a problem
notsotricky literally meant bats
As in, “Can we trade that hunk of garbage for some baseball bats.?”
"We're not going to be as bad as you think."

The score is
Padres players, management, and owners: many millions of dollars.
Padres fans: no reason to live.
Seriously...
He couldn’t catch the clap in TJ with a fist full of hundreds….but, damn…he is fast.

Ya gotta pay.
You can subscribe to audio only on mlb.com

Not worth it
It would be nice when I am traveling, but its not worth it when i can channel 4 at home.
I like it for day games

Dare to be positive
Heath is gonna man up this season and make us forget about Glenn’s brother.
Dare to be negative
but he’ll only get 20 save attempts.
Bell
I think he will be good, just not used very often.
Small Ball....
Its refreshing to see the Padres playing it.
our motto:
You think Schindler’s List was depressing…
This season will make...
the Titanic look short.
AccuScore projections
Out of 10,000 season simulations, the Padres:
won the division 8.6%
made the playoffs 13%
won their first round series 4.8%
won the National League 1.6%
World Series Champions 0.5%
so there’s a 50/10,000 chance the Padres can be world champions. Puncher’s chance!
How the hell
did we possibly make the playoffs more often than we won the division?
I want to thank the good Lord for making me a Philip Rivers fan.
