Late Night Padres Links
- Mark Prior is keeping upbeat despite not pitching in Spring Training. "But I think now I'm starting to feel confident that it's starting to work. It's good progress time in and time out, and I'm heading in the right direction."
- Paul DePodesta wants you to read the Ducksnorts Annual.
- Cla Meredith's shoulder still tender but feeling better. Can't wait for the moist air in SD to help his sinker.
- Chris Young not happy with Estes' comments about the Padres. Young asked a reporter: “Why are you quoting a Triple-A pitcher?”
- Peavy Update: "Persons close to Peavy say he expects he will be traded this year unless the Padres stay in contention."
- Get to know new Padres announcer Mark Neely.

Growing indications are the club’s operating capital also will be restricted in 2010

I'm there.
Ditching work early to hopefully make the 2:30 start time. I hope they aren’t restrictive about where we can sit. I’ll probably wear my brown and gold GLB shirt, but I’m not promising that it’ll stay warm enough to keep me from covering it up.

Unfortunatly no
Even think I am skipping opening day this year for the first time in a long time.
Winfield goes back to the wall. He hits his head on the wall -- and it rolls off! It's rolling all the way back to second base! This is a terrible thing for the Padres. - Jerry Coleman
I will be there for both

Do you think
Young should maybe hold off on his comments until after he puts in an outing that yields under double digits?
His comment was hilarious but bad timing. I am officially worried about Young now. He might be famous for bad springs but this is ridiculous.
How about
this outing, that didn’t yield double digits? This one too.
Anybody check Cliff Lee’s ERA lately (12.36)? Zach Greinke (9.64)? Jeremy Guthrie (10.43)? Matt Cain (6.04)? John Maine (6.85)? Jamie Moyer (8.07)? Felix Hernandez (8.36)? Mark Buerhle (6.50)? James Shields (8.16)?
Shoot, the Indians’ Scott Lewis won a 4th starter spot in an open competition with an 8.59 ERA.
I don’t see these teams’ fans freaking out over their top pitchers posting bad spring numbers. Why? Probably, because they don’t mean anything. They’ve even done studies between Spring Training ERAs and Regular Season ERAs and the former has no effect on the latter. Let’s try not to get worked up until the games count for something, okay guys?

Way to take that so literal.
Although, I don’t exactly consider 5 earned in 7 and 1/3 from your two “good” examples to be cause for celebration, he has explained about the dry weather making it unable to get a good grip. He has a history of bad spring outings. I understand all of these variables and was in no way implying he should pack’em up or something. I appreciate your comparisons to the various pitchers you mentioned but have decided that I am still concerned and will stay that way until he relaxes me through results. Hopefully next week.

Chris Young might be my new favorite padre
also,
“Which Padres hitter showed the most skill?
Fungo hitter and third-base coach Glenn Hoffman”
—that sucks
DODGERS, RED SOX, YANKEES, BRONCOS, PATRIOTS and RAIDERS all suck. Especially the Dodgers.

CY should be upset with Estes comment
It’s good to see a little fire in his response.
A day at the ballpark is better than a day at the therapist
Good to see some pride
Lord Knows that hasn’t been around the team much in the last 18 months
