Gaslamp Baller and Pad Squadder Miss California 2009 Carrie competes tonight in an attempt to become Miss USA! The show will air live on NBC. Are you nervous? Me too!
This will be the Open Thread for those watching the show tonight to get catty and comment on gowns, sashes and tiaras. I'll bump this up after the Padres game.

Hello Gaslamp-Ballers! We first of all wanted to say: Go Padres! Its been a great run so far and we are so happy to be back in the "swing" of things.
We also wanted to say "thank you" for supporting our own PadSquad Carrie in the Miss USA pageant. We are trying to do what we do best and get all our FrairFaithfuls rallying for Carrie Prejean to be the 2009 Miss USA. The support already has been amazing, but with the competition so soon we thought we'd try to rally just a little harder!
On the Miss USA site, you can vote for your favorite contestant and we want to put Carrie at #1 before the telecast, so we need your help!

Associated Press: Miss North Carolina USA crowned Miss USA 2009
If there is a YouTube moment from Sunday's show, it may be Miss California's answer to a question about legalizing same-sex marriage. The tall blonde stumbled some before giving an answer that appeared to please the pageant audience.
"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage," Prejean said. "And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."
Some in the audience cheered, others booed.

BIG controvery already!
Oh no! I don’t watch these things, but once I realized it was the Pad Squad gal in the finals, I was following it online and when the video went up…OUCH! Hoo boy. Not as bad as Miss “the Iraq” and “such as” from a prior year, but…..it certainly cost her the crown.

But she answered in sincerely and thoroughly. You’re going to piss off 1/2 of the country either way you answer but she was really classy in explaining her opinion.
I don’t agree with her necessarily, but that doesn’t mean she should have been penalized for having the opinion that 46/50 states agree with.

just saw that video on Perez Hilton. I really admire her for her honesty. I think she knew before she even opened her mouth that her answer will come with backlash from America, but what really makes me mad is that Perez Hilton would put her in that position and would use that answer against her and plaster it all over his website. I think he definitely knew what he was doing.
And what in the world? Why is he even a judge on Miss America??

Glad someone else reacted the same way I did ;-) I would certainly not go so far as calling her a ‘dumb bitch’, but yeah, that was a very clumsy way to answer that question no matter which side you fall on in the debate. I felt like she needed to take a deep breath and think a moment before answering.
